Hello guys, i am after some advice, and have only recently found this forum,

i have a problem with a series 3, type R manufactured 1994, brought through a dealer, and have had a few hassles with it.

After collecting it for the third time, it was only actually driven for about 3 months, approx 1000 miles.

The engine always smoked on start up but soon clears, however seemed to use alot of oil approx 5ltrs every 500miles.

Was told this was the norm by the dealer, however the engine started to overheat when at rest, back to the dealer again, who reported that the engine needed a rebuild, unlucky young man.

The car came with a warranty, who say it\'s the dealers prob.

Yes you sometimes get a bit of smoke on start up but there\'s  no way you should be  using a litre for a 100 miles,

Have you had starting problems i.e. flooding ?.

What you also need is a compression check done but unfortunately you will need to go to a specialist or Mazda to get this done but l feel you may need this to be armed with figures to make your dealer see sense over the warranty side of things ? or was the warrenty one of those you pay extra to a warrenty company deals?.

Sorry to be the bearer of but this does not sound like a very healthy Rotary.

Hope this helps.

All the best Clive  (from Gravesend)

thanks clive

the car is with the dealer - a japanese car importer based in Horsham who shall remain nameless at present.

There have had the car for about four weeks - they have told me that they have carried out a compression test and that the engine needs to be rebuilt - however they appear to refuse to have any involvement.

I am after another rx 7 specialist - is there anybody local to gravesend, or i will take to Abbey Motorsport as i know someone there, to check the engine, and give me a report.

Hiya Simon you said here was a warrenty with the car is the warrenty company refusing to pay for the work, do you have the car on finance if you do and if you took the finance through the dealer phone them up and complain. Tell them the car is not preforming the job it was designed to do and you have been misled by the dealer with any luck the finance company will speak to the dealer and you should get a result let us know how you get on, cheers Leigh.

thanks

no car the was paid 4 all in cash - however the warranty company have been helpful, but the offical line is the car had the problem when the warranty was issued by the dealer, and should have picked up when serviced prior to my collection.

Hi Simon,
I have just picked up on this thread and am sorry to hear that you are having problems.
Clive has let me know some more detail than is on here.
The engine is in very poor condition if it is using oil in the quantities that you have mentioned.
If an engine uses more than a pint of oil in 1000 miles then it is very unhealthy,a reasonable engine would not even use half that if driven normally. It sounds for certain that you need a rebuild.
When one of these engines starts it may puff a little blue smoke which should dissipate immediately. This is pumped into the engine to lubricate the seals on startup. You should notice NO smoke on normal driving. It is probaly the O rings on the oil control rings of the rotors that have perished or a main oil seal has gone which could be your clutch problem. If that is so then a full rebuild is needed.
Your water problems are only fixable by rebuilding the engine,it is not like a piston engine that you could replace the headgasket, the whole engine must come apart to fix the problem.
If you need any more info then you can email me at rota110sman@yahoo.com
or phone me on 01635 846598
Kind regards
Carl
