Hi,
First post! Of many hopefully! I have just bought an rx7 TT efini edition (not too sure what that means!)... Anyway, I have a couple of questions for you all! (thats if you dont mind!) ... :-)
Right first things first, the stereo! I have a bose stereo system with all the gubbins in the boot - do the speakers just hook up normally with my aftermarket sony stereo with an ISO adapter? also, there are 2 stereo slots in the dash - what is the best thing for covering one of these up?
Next - Kmh to Mph.... Just done a quick search on the site and have seen the chip thingy you can get - looking at something like this ...

Are these any good? AND How easy to fit are they? I have had the dash to bits on a volvo 480 and a BMW E36 coupe without too much trouble... would I be able to do the fitting ok?? and does it automatically convert the mileage counter to miles as well?
One more thing, what is the best oil to use (will be buying plenty of it :-) ), and what should the oil pressure readings be??
Many thanks for your help in advance!!
Llew

forgot to mention - i think my car has the efini y-pipe? Whats that all about then?:cool
Hi - Welcome
First off there are a couple of meets coming up in your area you might like to pop along to.

I\'ll leave the stereo and chip to others but as for oil make sure it\'s mineral and not synthetic, changed every 3k along with the filter.

Hi John,
Thanks for the reply! I would love to go to the meet on the 6th, but I dont pick her up until the 15th! Are the meets fairly regular then?
Cheers, Llew:rollin
The next meet at The Royal Oak after that is Sunday April 3rd but I won\'t be going to that one as it\'s the same date as the first MRC meeting at Brooklands.
Have a look in the events section for details.
If you want to overdose on RX7\'s that\'s the palce to start :D

Presumably you are just importing it personally, and not through an importer who would normally sort out the chip (and other things) ?
Although mine had a chip already fitted, but one of the dials on the dash was not working, so dived in and had a look. Removing the instrument cowling is pretty easy - just make sure you have removed all the screws before you start tugging! The whole instrument cowling pulls out, a bit tough, but does remove eventually. There were several connectors into the back of the pcb, easily unplugged. You now have access to the pcb board, and the wiring harnesses. The chip I had had 5 wires, some seem to have 4. Its then a case of following the instructions and wiring it the pcb and into the correct wires in the harness.
I think you also need to replace the "kph" on the speedo with "mph", or tape over the "k" - it now says "hp", but it seems to be OK like this??
Refitting is easier, since all you\'ve got to do is push fit everything together, and replace the screws.
Having seen what is involved, it is a dead easy diy job, as long as nothing breaks and the instructions on fitting are correct!
Good luck.
(ps - with my chip, the digital speedo still says kph, but now records as miles. There are companies that seem to offer to convert km to miles, so the milometer is correct. Not sure if anyone can change the kph letters though.)
Thanks for your help guys!
I haven\'t imported it myself, but for some reason it is still restricted and still reads in kph? Should they have done this? It was first imported in \'99 so the previous owner must have just lived with this!
Cheers, Llew:)
Cool :wave welcome another local staking victim er i mean rotory enthusiast for me to befriend

lol
Are you planning on getting it a good service/once over to check & replace the various bits to ensure all is well? I\'d recommend Pip @ WGT although he\'s about 90 miles away from you at a guess it is worth the journey......Give him a buzz ref the delimiting etc also i\'m sure it\'s something all the experts can do easily enough. Does sound a little strange it was left like this but certainly not unheard of on a variety of imports.....
I\'ll add to to the mailing list i normally do for local meets, reminds me to do one again soon, & i look forward to meeting you & your car in the fullness of time.....
Ask away if you need any help with anything (although i am technically retarded (http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/contrib/drowned/dork.gif) lol)

Take it apart and send your clocks to Autoprotec - they will translate your km reading to mph and reset the odometer to shoe the correct miles covered. Also deristricted of course.
Much better than the usual caper of the odometer adding miles on top of the original km reading...
Ok I will do! Does anyone have a link to their website? Also, how much does it cost?
