Title: Decision 99 RX7
Post by: RossBerkeley on February 24, 2005, 09:18:56 AM
I am considering buying that \'99 Rx7 that has been listed on e-bay twice and on this site a number of times before. It has been damaged and part repaired. It needs air bags, screen, headlight, rad, front end painting and other small bits.

Has anyone an idea of its value ?

Issues I might have registering ?

Is this car a good buy?

Advice welcomed

Hi Ross,

Be prepared to have to jig this car as its a little worrying that the bags have gone off.

I\'m not 100% sure, but you could end up being really stuck with registering it. I helped to SVA one of the last rx7\'s using the old style loop hole system. Basically we managed to just get the car in to the test 1 week before the 1st april 2004 (sva to esva cut off point closing up the disabled loop hole). The car is a 99 car and was only running on one rotor at the time. Obvioulsy the car failed, but luckily for us the car was now in their system under the old rules. We rebuilt the motor over a period of months and got it ready for the sva, but before we knew it nearly 6 months had passed and we were told that we could only retest the car within 6months of the original test and if it hadn\'t passed by then, then the car would have to be tested by the new rules so would require a model report:eek: :(

Anyway the car failed once more and again about 1 week before the 6 month period came up the car passed on its 3rd attempt:).

So regarding this time limit and the fact that this certain 99 car never underwent an sva test in the first place, but may have been registered with them?. Chances are you are going to have to sva test the car using the new rules, hence you will require a model report, which has not yet been done and not sure it ever will be done for an rx-7:(. Now what we were told could have been a lie and as long as you got on their list before April the 1st 2004 you will be fine.

So I\'d do some serious checking and double checking with the owner and the SVA / ESVA people before handing over any cash, otherwise you\'ll end up with one expensive track day toy never to be used on the road.

Good luck with it as it looks like a good project,

Paul
