Title: High Pitch Noise Problem
Post by: J4P RX on February 22, 2005, 08:01:08 AM
Can anyone help.

Just started using the car this week after months of not using it if that makes a difference.

Anyway there is a really high pitch noise being made.  Its quite soft.  The thing is, this noise is still there when the keys are out and the ignition is off.  Its a noise in the cockpit, cant hear it outside the car its not that loud (though its volume does seem to change from time to time when driving it, including going away too after a while).

Any help much appreciated before it kills my battery and im after jump starts in the snow!

Cheers
Lee

Lee,

Going by other posts with similar problems it sounds like it could be the ecu#2, the one above the drivers footwell fuse box. I believe it contols the warning buzzers etc and is prone to go faulty and when it does it can make noises like the one you are describing.

As far as i know its nothing to with the engine ecu.

Best thing to do is try and borrow one off a local friendly fd owner and replace it to see if thats the problem before you have to buy a second hand replacement, its not difficult to change over, takes about 5 or 10 minutes to swap over.

Lee, just sent you PM from my other user ID. In case you haven\'t read it, I\'m in Brighton, have got an FD here at the moment, and also another ECU2 that I have had kept in a warm dry place for a while - it wasn\'t working properly before but may beok now.

I know the noise your talking about i also was trying to figure it out for ages even when the keys were out it was making the noise its a low volume high pitched sound right ?(if that make any sence!).

Mine did the same when i was installing my Koyo rad,so i just started to add coolant and the noise went away.

maybe check your coolant level.

It is like the noise you describe Shaq, but its not coolant.  Ive already checked the fluids.

Just had a thought - there could be dampness in the ignition key barrel. There\'s a switch in there that lets you know you\'ve left the key in and opened the door as far as I know. If there is a bit of leakage to earth then maybe that\'s causing the problem. Spray seom contact cleaner or water dispersant (WD40 or GT85 or similar) in there to see what happens.

Sounds like a fault with one of the warning buzzers as Donato mentioned all those years back, lol

Have you checked the sensors and fuses as per the post?
