Title: Has someone P****D off Houghtons??
Post by: rmagictastic on February 21, 2005, 01:17:45 PM
Well its renewel time again so i thought i would have a look at some classic insurance and some alternative companies, after reading recent threads i called houghtons who tell me that you have to be 30 to be insured with them.
Are they lying? or has there been so many claims this winter that they\'re just p****d off???

(did get a wicked quote from norton though, classic ins. limited mileage 5000, agreed value of 8.5K, im 26 the wife is 25, 3yrs NCB  Â£600.)

Cheers

Nick

I think that Houghtons had an influx of quotes this winter, and they may have got a little scared by having so many FD\'s on their books.

I have my insurance with houghtons. They quoted me 420 quid just for me ( Im 26), but another 200 notes for the fiancee ( but she is 24).

I hope it wasn\'t me!  I just called them about 2 hours ago to get a quote.  They said i was too young.  I\'m 25.

Looks like this is quite a recent change then.

I got my insurance in Sept, how many other people have insurance with these guys?

Im insured with houghtons. Cost just over 400 notes on a classical policy. Im 26 ! Very worrying if they bump it up to 30 :(  Do they usually re-new policys if somebody has already been with them for already and is under a given age ???

I called them for a quote in Jan, renewal is in about 3 weeks. They quoted £500ish and I\'m 32, but then I did write off my GT-Four last April........
I will report back as I will be calling them soon.

Mart.

Give our designated club contact Adam a ring at AON on 01384552825.

Houghtons and most of em use AON to insure their cars through,
we have a direct deal with them.

We have an aggreement that they will insure virtualy any Rotary no matter how modded provideing it has no NOS and your over 25.

You should save a bit more with Full MRC Club membership as well.

Hi Guys

Just to clarify a few points:

Unfortunately our scheme underwriters have altered their acceptance criteria and generally will not now cover drivers under the age of 30 on RX7 s.

That said, we can sometimes persuade them to consider say, a 29 year old, providing there is no other adverse driving history.

For those of you who are currently insured with us who are under 30, we are not anticipating them refusing to renew your policies.

Aplologies for any percieved inconsistancy here but unfortunately it is out of our control.

We do also deal with AON ourselves so it is always worth calling us but again, in our experience they too are reluctant to cover younger drivers.

We are always please to chat with you guys so please keep giving us a try.

Regards, Colin

I\'m with Houghton, 26yrs old with 6 yrs no claims, alarmed, immobilised, tracked, limited to 4500 miles for £800.

At least they said they will renew existing policy holders.

I tried AON back in July because of the club deal, but they said I had to be 30.

anybody out there who wan\'t to insure a 25 year old guy with 0 accidents/convictions but with 0years NCB?  0 years ncb because i\'ve been an additional driver on my mum\'s policy up till now - its only now dawning on me how much of a big mistake that was.

i called up insurance line (0800 0522168).  They told me that i needed to know the price of every mod in my car and if applicable, by how much it raised the standard BHP!?  Is this a normal request?  Problem is I don\'t have a breakdown of the mods unless i ask Miguel and i\'m not sure he\'s gonna know either.  Do you reckon i should just give insurance line a swerve?

I made Houghtons aware of every mod on my car and it\'s value.  I\'ve heard horror stories of insurance companies not paying out because x mod wasn\'t declared.

Miguel should be able to tell you the mods.

Couple of thoughts on the mod situation. You\'re obviously taking things into your own hands but when I wrote off my GT-Four in April Adrian Flux didn\'t seem too bothered it had alloys, KYB shocks and skirts on (although I did have the dump valve, cat replacement pipe and boost controller on the policy).

Anyway, renewed my insurance today. Got a quote back in Jan from Ken at Houghton\'s. £462 quid. I\'m 32, live in Durham, full no claims, wrote off the GT-Four last April, car is Cat 1, would be on the drive behind locked gates, 2nd car, 5000 miles, alloy wheels, cat back exhaust. So I call Ken last week, and it seems that someone made a £50grand personal injury claim against one of these policies so they are discontinued. Nice. Ken then quoted me on the classic policy (which doesn\'t require any no claims discount), same details as above, legal cover included, £597 !! To give Ken his due though, after I murmered a little about the price difference he did manage to leave me a message with a further 10% off, making £537 my premium. This is through Chaucer, not AON.
After Clive\'s advice I spoke to AON but a chap called Richard, not Adam. He told me they use Royal Sun Alliance for classics, all the details as above, £40 glass replacement excess, 45 days Euro cover, track day cover (except Nurburgring which I might go to in June), all up £497 !!! Wheel cover is limited to £750 for all four, so I shall try to forget mine are worth a grand each corner.....

Cheers for the heads up on insurance guys, Anal Fux\'s renewal premium was £965 so that\'s saved me enough for the PFC about to be delivered !

Interesting. Mazda (really Zurich) were the cheapest I could find when the 8 was a brand spanker (and it included bags of European cover) but I\'m considering changing, so this is all useful...

I won\'t tell you what Anal Fux quoted. They have a big rep - but has ANYONE had a sensible quote from them in the last year for any sort of car bigger than a Corsa? I\'m beginning to think not...

(My main problem is I need Class I biz)
