Title: Is it rebuild time already?
Post by: elford_tim on February 16, 2005, 07:52:22 PM
After the bad experience buying an Elford Turbo with a supposedly good engine earlier last year I\'m now insisting that any car I\'m interested in has a compression test first - I\'d rather waste the thirty to forty quid that costs then have to pay a couple of thousand straight away...

Anyway, the latest set of lucky numbers to come through are 6.4-6.9 on the front rotor and 5.5-5.8 on the rear. I can live with the numbers on the front rotor but I\'ve got my doubts about the values on the back...

Anybody care to hazard a guess how close to a rebuild this engine is? FC Turbo II with about 70k on the clock, presumed to be the original engine.

You\'ll know when the time comes! One morning it\'ll flood, you\'ll get it going, then it\'ll flood a couple of days later. At least doing it at that stage will keep the costs down!

I\'m guessing you\'re not far off ;)

Rears are almost alway more worn then the fronts. The 1 bar difference is just into mazda specs.

But 30-40 pounds for a compressiontest? wow, i need to adjust my price for a compressiontest (17.40 pounds,25 euro\'s and that\'s with a digital compressiontester and done twice)

Hi, just had my 12a checked by Pip at WGT.

4.2,4.2 3.5 on the front and 4.5, 4.6, 3.6 on the back.

so its time for a new engine.

But, although she is now a real pig to start, once going everything is fine apart from the fact that I cant get her to idle below 1800 rpm. does the compression improve with rpm?
