Hi Guys,

Glenn just alerted me to some questions here.

To be honest, I haven\'t measured power at all, it goes well some days more than others, the colder the weather, the better - rain\'s not bad, either, but you\'ve gotta be careful :p

It\'s quick and drivable in all conditions, yet still docile and easy to potter in traffic with...

The plate on the side is where I mounted the 2 water injection pumps from a kit obtained from Paul Port of MR2 (IMOC etc) fame..

It\'s not a real RZ, although spec is much better than a std. RZ now!! Started life as a good near standard Type R Bathurst model. Stickers look good and are cheap, so I put them on

How do I post lots of pics in one go? I have some better ones....
:rollin\' on...

Miguel.

Hi Miguel,

You need someone to host the pics for you - then you just post up the IMG URL in the Thread.

I can host - no problems,  or you can post one at a time (bit of a pain).

Hello Miguel,
You have an amazing FD!

Never seen that CF intake before.. who makes it. looks very nice.

One more question.  What is the clear plastic peice just above the intake opening?? Is it part of the stock front body showing through the mouth opening?? Just wondering...........

Thanks,

Oliver

Miguel, clean car! Not sure about the pimp daddy shades. ;)

Been a long long time since I have seen an engine bay looking that clean. Knight Sports know their stuff very well by the looks of it.

Hi Oliver,

Cheers for the compliments.
The Cold air Feed kit is from Knight Sports, but will only work with their V-mount intercooler/radiator kit. Quietens the dump valves and gives a better feed of air. Plastic above the intake is part of the original bumper backing, which still exists to give a good sturdy mount for the FEED bumper. Otherwise, it would probably wobble like jelly, much like some of the examples I look at, but don\'t buy.

Dan,
I am a pimp! - We supply beautifully sculptured RX-7\'s that people wanna have and love all night!

Thank you Miguel for the information. By the way, the Knight Sport V-mount looks so nice.

I made my own SMIC (using a Spearco intercooler) last winter. I was going to try to copy the V-mount design but decided it was going to be to much work changing the Radiator, etc.... The KS was a bit out of my price range and about the same time Rotary Extreme was coming out with his from California. Instead I just tilted the intercooler more (compared to others that sit back farther) so one day I could (maybe $$) get a nice vented hood.... Just tried to be a little different. Since you have to have a vented hood with the V-mount. I just could not swing it all at one time.

I have another question...:) Sorry

In your photo... the radiator looks like it\'s all most laying down? and the intercooler only has a slight decline with a gap between the too. Is it just the photo angle? I thought the radiator  from the back was positioned higher touching the intercooler?? It just seems the cooler air would flow better....
I just found a photo which is a KS. It must be the photo angle since you have the same thing...right??

promise...no more questions for today! :D

There\'s a smaller angle, in reality than in the mock up showpiece, but remember, the air\'s got nowhere to go virtually, except through the radiator & intercooler.
Also radiator is roughly twice the capacity of original.

It works well, as I never see wate temp exceed 90 Deg C whilst driving on roads, no matter the ambient temp, speeds I\'m driving at, etc. At track speeds, I was pushing the engine as hard as I could to get maximum performance, so temp climbed to over 100 Deg C after 2-3 hard laps, but that\'s normal, I guess....

A std. radiatored FD there could hardly push it, as temp climbed very rapidly if he did...Poor guy, he did mutter some complaints!

:wave

Post by: Oliver on June 27, 2003, 01:42:38 PM
I see temps from 85-89 and HOT days or traffic it can climb to 92-96. turn the fan on or even the ac and it drops back to 88-89. Only been on the track once this year in May and it was cold and rainy, so temps were never an issue. Just keeping it on the track was the problem :D

Appreciate all the feedback Miguel!

Hope we can talk some more down the road?

Take it easy,
Oliver

Went to my local tuning shop, Nishiki - to ask they start trying to source a low mileage late used gearbox, got talking - as there\'s another track day coming up....11th Nov. at Tsukuba.

They have a Bilstein Shock Dyno and make all their shock absorbers to people\'s specifications - their younger mechanic knows a lot about suspension, so we got chatting about that...I\'m always looking for ways to improve cornering speed / progressive handling further.

Apparently, despite the larger ARC Anti Roll bars my car now has, in addition to Ohlins Suspension kit, it still rolls a bit on some corners, making me lose traction earlier than it could..... Although RX-7\'s don\'t roll much as standard, it\'s all relative. There\'s little body roll and even less body roll, which is where I\'m heading towards...

Was told that 10-14kg harder Springs will be better for the back, 10kg or so, on the front - still need to discuss this futher - for what I really want...For info - have got Mazdaspeed under body braces fitted on the car too, plus harder engine (Re Amemiya) and diff mounts to go with the large metal brace connecting the gearbox to diff (Mazdaspeed upgraded item). The car\'s getting stiffer all the time. At the moment, it feels marginally more vibey on idle, plus perhaps a bit more raw when reving - due to the stiffer engine and diff mounts, but at least it won\'t crack the support again, I hope. Also a little better against axle tramp when wheel-spinning to provoke a slide.

One of my Ohlins shocks is starting to weep a little bit and could use a rebuild, so now it looks as if I\'ll be upgrading the bump/rebound too - to stiffen up the ride and increase cornering potential. On the longer sweeping corners, against purer track prepared RX-7\'s I do find they\'re harder and a bit faster than mine, which starts to slide a little earlier, perhaps.

Interestingly, I asked if I should upgarde the Torsen Differential for a Cusco LSD, to improve drifting potential, for when I want to slide - they said the standard diff on a Rex is fine - and to leave it as is. Guess I will then...

I\'ll update when I get round to changing the suspension and the trade off between ride comfort / handling improvements. The Ohlins is fairly softish now, so it could get a bit harder without making my fillings fall out!

I don\'t use it except for fast road / track use any more these days anyway - although I draw the line at stripping out the interior.

Driving this car tends to leave the adrenalin pumping for a few good hours. Who needs drugs when you can have this much fun behind the wheel!

To be updated. :) :)

Miguel,

My Cusco LSD gives better control thru high speed corners, but at the expense of the messy clunk-a-clunk, <10mph  stuff, it\'s also adjustable, rebuildable and stronger.
Torsion had impeccable/progressive street manners and was easier to drift, the cusco\'s rear grip being harder to break free and requiring more power input, but that\'s the way I like it ;)

Regards
Phil

Great car Miguel. I was amazed by the defi gauges with the stock lighting and the pod that fits on the center speaker place. Who makes them? Do they come as a kit from DEFI?

I\'ll try to remember to take a camera the next time it\'s up in the air....Got lots of shiny red braces underneath, and the diffuser, which actually seems to produce significant downforce at speed.

Shouldn\'t be too long till it\'s in the air, if I can get a near new gearbox.....Will hopefully hear about this tommorow!

Henning can get the pod for the Gauges, they\'re around £90 each. By far the tidiest way to fit gauges, I\'ve seen. They\'re a part made in the States by a design company called Tri-Power, I think.

Cheers for the compliments, guys. Nice to know others aside from me also like the results of the research I did to get the car into this condition / spec.

Miguel, are the nice red braces the Auto Exe braces?

Dan
Title: Miguel\'s FD RX-7 in Japan
Post by: Miguel on October 01, 2003, 09:42:13 AM
Yup, a full set of Auto Exe Braces, red Mazdaspeed uprated gearbox/diff brace plus some beefier Anti Roll bars. Have also fitted RE-Amemiya uprated diff and engine mounts....A tiny bit more vibration, but almost not noticable....Hopefully it won\'t break the gearbox/diff brace again.

Nishiki Tuners have found a 54,000km 1999 gearbox for 69,000 Yen, but I still want something a little newer.. Now they\'re finding out the price of a rebuilt exchange unit from Mazda...if not a lot more, I may go for that....We\'ll see.

Other news:

Had a phone call yesterday from a Malcolm Halls, who was asking for advice - as he is about to buy a 2000 RX-7 RB from a Mazda Dealer in Nagoya, for his own personal use in Japan. Looks as if the club is about to grow with another English person based in Japan...

We got talking and he mentioned he had to sell his 2002 Honda Fireblade with only 900km on the clock. Honda in Japan were offering him near half of what he paid for it 12 months ago - so we got chatting....Result: I have just purchased a Blade to play with - Travelling by Bullet Train & picking it up from Nagoya on Sunday and riding it the 300km back to Tokyo.

Was a biker before I came to Japan 5 years ago, it\'ll be great to have 140 bhp between my legs - Haven\'t been this excited since I got my FD.....:cool

Just a question to Mr. Nice Admin Bloke :wave , how do you get your pics as thumbnails like that on the first page? Is it a feature of vBulletin or an extra feature you have added in? The reason i wanted to know is another forum im on is thinking of doing a gallery section and that type of layout would be perfect.

Any help is appreciated

Just to come back onto topic..... Miguel, I saw your Rex in Jap Performance which arrived (much to my delight) this morning. Very nice car, the work done is sympathetic to the car\'s already excellent traits and ads to them v nicely. Can you get me one? :D One bay when I\'ve cleared the hole in my bank account caused by my imminent wedding:rolleyes:

Would you have any concerns or problems in finding an RX7 and not putting it on the ship?

It seems I might like to get myself a car, but I don\'t know how or where to start looking and I am wondering wether I could ask someone who finds these cars for export and ask them to find me one, with the simple condition that it does NOT go on the ship!

All I would have to do to get it home is jump in and drive.

And try to navigate through Tokyo (GPS PLEASE!) and the &^&%*%$&^ tolls.

Not buying just yet, but hunting down information is all.

There are some really good things about living in Japan... ;P

We can supply a good RX-7 for use domestically in Japan.

As long as it\'s got a decent length of shaken, we can supply a car ready to register in your name in Japan - and give you a guide on how to do the registration (It\'s very easy actually) :D

Contact through the website and we can go from there. Cars we stock for export wouldn\'t be available as those are already de-registered....except for a big single rotary, but that\'s only got the plates on because I wanna test it properly before preparing details ;)

Yes, Japan definitely has lots of positive aspects...! C1 is my favourite late at night, assuming the girlfriend isn\'t feeling frisky..:cool

Yes, shaken would be nice. :)

s for the shaken, does it hold across prefectural boundaries? Ya see I\'m way out in Kagawa (Wide open spaces, not too crowded and UDON!!!) and I hope that if I get a car from your neck of the woods it should be OK here. I can\'t think why it wouldn\'t be, but hey, this is Japan...

BTW, know a guy who picked up an as new Cosmo with the triple rotor for Y50,000 (fifty thousand yen) then promptly crunched it.

Only newish car I\'ve ever been in  that stank of fuel inside the cabin, and left smoke screens of fuel vapour.

But holy ^$^%$ did it move!!! :P

Shaken is valid throughout Japan.

Funny, I could\'ve sworn 20B\'s aren\'t meant to stink of petrol inside the cabin if like new :D

I guess the fuel guage on that thing might have been faulty too.

Can\'t explain how you could watch it drop so quickly, musta been some kind of model wide fault that wasn\'t repaired or something.

And there was that peculiar thing that happened at around 180km/h that just didn\'t fit either.

Very strange car, very strange.

Yes he has been called every name imaginable for bending it. :(
