Title: Stock clutch good for 320 bhp??
Post by: J.j. on February 14, 2005, 06:51:21 PM
Hi guys,
Thinking of changing my clutch.
With the plans I have, Im not gonna go over 320 or 330 bhp.
Will a stock clutch take it?? If not, which clutch should I go for?? and roughly how much??
The clutch I have now is a funny racing clutch.  called peddle, paddle clutch??  Any idea if it\'s worth anything??
Cheers

Standard\'s good for 400??  They really that good?  Was told that anything over 280 would need an uprated ones.........
The clutch in my car is an absolute pig to drive and v. v. noisy..

Hi there,

I had a stock clutch on my car when it was imported, the car had 39k miles on it, and was running 320 fwhp. It was already slipping badly at this point, I then upped the boost and got re-mapped for 370 fwhp, the clutch fried after about 2 pulls.

I ended up getting a new single-plate cerametalic clutch fitted by Re:Worx. They now sell and fit these direct. It\'s small amount heavier than the stock clutch, is single-plate and not a bitch to drive. Geff has run this clutch in his 600 bhp drag car, so it\'s tough too. A great compromise.

I appreciate my clutch was already fried before I upped the power even more. But at 320 bhp I doubt it would last much more than 35-40 thousand miles. Depends what you\'re after really. I went for a up-rated clutch as I have more plans for the car in the future, for that extra few hundred quid I\'ve got something proven for big-power.

At the end of the day, it\'s your car, and your call!

Hope that helps some.
Alex.

Hi Jj

I have to agree with Alex that a stock one will struggle .

We now sell an ideal clutch for thgis use that sits nicely between stock and the exeddy\'s that we sell.

These are Centerforce duel friction clutches that will give the same pedal pressure as a stock clutch, doesnt "rattle" and also give you the same smoooth pull away that a stock clutch does unlike the "race" clutches that need mastering.

£492 +vat , which isn\'t crazy money for a 500bhp capable clutch.

How much is it??
As I said before.  Im not planning on going over 320-330 bhp like you guys, so I\'d thought that a £500+ clutch is a bit of over kill, no??

Cheers

You\'\'re probably looking at closer to a grand for the clutch I was talking about. That\'s including vat and fitting. Clive\'s option may be worth going for, like he said, somewhere in the middle ground.

I think a stock replacement would be at least 350 +vat, so Clives price looks very attractive.

Geff\'s car actually runs Xtreme these days, as does Max\'s...

They start from about 440+vat from recollection and are very easy driving for an uprated clutch. We just fitted a 6 puck Xtreme to Chris\' FC3S and considering its alleged capability is very user friendly...

We have a few clutches on the website: //www.reworx.com

Rich

If you could put some pics up, that may well help to sell it.

I\'ve heard nothing but bad reports about centerforce clutches. Don\'t last very long and don\'t hold much power. Just my 2p.

Hi Matt,

Before we decided to sell these we did research as best we could , and found that this has been used in many many FD\'s in the UK with no problems also to give you an idea of what we have found, l know a guy who runs a 600bhp Supra with this clutch and it shouldn\'t really be handling this sort of power but because he does no drag racing and doesn\'t drive like a loon its been no problem and been in for ages now.

Like anything you can kill it if you try, all we are saying is that with this clutch is that we believe we have found a cheap way of giving customers a good fast/road clutch.

If they drive like an animal, have loads of power or drag the thing we would advise something better, but something better WILL cost.
