Title: Elford turbo Q\'s
Post by: ohc turbo on February 12, 2005, 07:52:40 PM
found a kit but its incomplete, i really need to know what consiststs in the kit.

the parts that ive found

blow through carb
inlet manifold
exhaust manifold (with actuator assembly)
Sump (i take it you need this for a oil return?)
Turbo down pipe

i think the kit is 80% complete, all its missing is the turbo and the box that has ETL written on the top, i looked at the exhaust manifold flange and it looks very like a standard garret T3 flange, i could just get a T3 off any car and bolt it on but there two thinks im not sure about 1. the down pipe - the elford turbo does not have a standard garret downpipe flange, it looks kinda square? also it looks like theres very limited space for the downpipe to go under the bulkhead, maybe this will be a issue if i cant find a elford turbo. 2. ELT box - do i actually need this, is it just a boost solonoid?

hope someone can help, theres not many of these left nowdays

You cant just stick on any T3.  Thats what I tried to do.
Because of the way the elford set up work - draw through as aposed to blow through - you will find that your whole sump of oil will get blown out the exhaust in short order.

I did exactly that.  Makes a real mess I can tell you.  You will then have to get your turbo rebuilt to suit the application you have.  This means fiting positive carbon oil seals. £400.  I did it last august.
