Title: What sort of oil?
Post by: A7NTY on June 19, 2003, 02:47:02 PM
What sort of oil should an RX7 FD3 twin turbo take as I have heard they should not have synthetic oil?

20w-50 mineral - is that right?

What are your recomendations?

Anthony.

Anthony, any good make mineral oil is ok, Mazda use Castrol 5/30.

Mazda however are now by the looks of it saying that in the RX-8 you can use fully synthetic oils, but I am not sure I would use it in my FD.

For the summer months I would look around for some mineral oil say 10/40 or higher.

I\'m using Valvoline Racing 20W50 mineral oil  in my 1st gen.

Its the same stuff they use in top fuel dragsters and its only £11 for 5 litres :cool

Please don\'t take any chances with experimenting with Oil, l have a U/K Gen 3 hand book that says /

DO NOT USE SYNTHETIC ,

Although the book says 10 / 30 l have used 10/ 40 for years with no ill effects, also please change at 3,000miles .

Hope this helps.

All the best Clive
