Title: Adjusting TEIN Dampers
Post by: monkey-fd3s on February 06, 2005, 09:12:51 PM
Hello

Maybe this is a dumb question but here goes.

I have TEIN type Flex dampers on my FD and i want to adjust the ride heigh - mainly at the rear.

Now i know the ad blurb says there is a way to alter the ride height without changing the pre-load on the springs.  To me this means that the ride height is adjustable using something other than the lower spring seat...

so.

I took a wheel off to have a look at the suspension - it apears that there is a method of adjustment at the base of the shock - the manual refers to this as the Bracket Lock.

My question is this - do I wind the bracket lock up the body of the shock to adjust the ride height?

My thinking is that by doing this it shortens the over all length of the damper body - hence lowering the ride height without adjusting pre-load.

Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave, no such thing as a dumb question on MRC

We are official suppliers for Tein and have fitted and set up several of these kits.

Your right, do not disturb the two locking rings under the coil springs , just undo the single ring at the bottom of the struts then turn the whole unit clockwise to lower and anti to raise by putting your key on the two locking rings ( that should be locked together tight enough to do this)

Before you start put it on level ground and measure from the top centre of the wheel arch lips to the ground and write all the figures down.

Hope this helps

Thanks :)

Just one more thing - >

Do i have to unbolt the shock from the suspension arm to adjust this - or does the body wind independantly?

Is there any reason the rear of my RX would have been setup slightly higher than the front?

Thanks again.

Dave

PS - Shy is it possible to buy the spanner separately the garage that did the work didn\'t give me one :(

You wind the whole unit ( the coil spring part with the threaded tube)

Yes the back should be higher than the front even if its only 1/2 an inch otherwise you could have aerodynamic instability at high speeds.

Although we can supply you replacement spanners the garage definatly should give you the spanners back that come with every kit !!

Thanks Clive.

I will chase the garage for the spanners before I order any.
