Could anybody explain to me why so many RX7 enthusiasts seem to like sticking extra bits of bodywork all over what is already a classic, and beautifully designed and shaped creation? Also while I\'m here, as I was told in no uncertain terms that I had not got a Type R, could someone please let me know what model I have got.
Many thanks
Hi Gary,
Sorry to hear that it sounds like someones got a lttle stroppy about your car, Grrrr, people !
Have a look here and you should hopfully be able to asertain your model for yourself.

Hope this helps , if not post the spec and info about your car and l am sure someone here will help you.
BTW I think the last time l checked there was 16 different models of Gen 3, this means you have got to be damn good to tell a lot of em apart!
Probably an R1 as there\'s no sunroof
reason for adding bits is to make it look a bit individual..if they were all standard and the same colour they wld be a bit boring..fyi mine has a bomex kit:D
Thanks Clive & Speedworks. The R1 seems to match, so I\'m going to stick with it. Thanks again for your help.
As for extra bodywork here\'s my explanation; apart from the individual looks, some of it is more than just that.
Aftermarket front bumpers to allow more cool air into your engine bay or hit your front mounted inter-cooler and feed your big single turbo :)
Wide arches for wider wheels for traction and cornering.
Vented bonnets for that added cooling effect.
I was like you once, but once I started seeing what could be done, especially in the Japanese domestic market and North America, I knew how I wanted mine to look :) Those Japanese tuners have a lot to answer for!
And it\'s like Clive says, there are so many 3rd gen models that you\'d have to be very clued up to know each one, I _think_ I have a RS but who knows? :)
Hope to see you at some of the shows, an \'unspoiled\' FD is always a nice sight.
no denying the standard RX7 is a beaut & as above different strokes for different folks modding is an individual thing although i like you wheels ;) it does look lurvly :god
Si
Gary you havent got an R1, you have no bottom lip front spoiler, do u have a strut brace in engine compartment? and check if you have two oil coolers, you probably have the touring model
There should be a big white square sticker in the drivers door that has all the specs of the car. It should say if its a type-R on the middle right-hand side if it is.
Hope that helps !
Shaun
The biggest clue will be 1 oil cooler.
If you dont have two then it is NOT a type R.
Sunroof doesnt matter.
Mine is type R.
Check
Rear Window Wiper. Type R definately has None.
PS,
Whats wront with enhancing the shape.
I dont like my front but hey. There are so many designs
Once you have had your car for a while you\'ll get tired of the standard lines.
yours - plain.
This one - plain awesome.
(not knocking yours cause any FD is cool)
But Chris, us widebody boys gotta stick together.
Amen to that Russ :)
7 days and counting...
I love the standard look of the rex.. however I the body kitted look even more (allbeit some look nasty) ... each to their own :)
I wouldn\'t trade mine for a stock
Stock FD\'s do look great, especially the 99 spec front bumper IMO.
But there are some many kits out there that changing the kit is only a matter of time. If you come to Rotorstock you will see some amazing FD\'s with some awesomw kits.
Not sure of they add much additional weight to the car, but the majority will increase the airflow which is only a good thing in a car of this type.

What happens when you have a rear wiper and two oil cooler as well??
Cheers

Then it\'s probably a type RS like mine:
http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12579
I got twin oil coolers and a rear wash wiper
looks like i got meself an RS, unless someone shoots me down.
Ric: I\'ve even got the same bodykit as you!

There is a white sticker, not on the door itself but on the inside of the bodywork by the door. Some of it is in Japanese, but the there is "225/50ZR16
"225/50R16"
I have the strut across the engine, and what looks like an anti roll bar across the back. Hope some of this helps. Also the suspension is very very solid, even more so than my old Turbo II.
Gary,
If you have that sticker then it should have a bit that says type and then describes the type of FD you have. The sticker is visible on the body when you open the drivers door.
Mine has the year of build, and says that mine is an R2.
take a look and see.
Saves describing it.
First pic
have a guess

This is not the same sticker as mine which explains a few things. Better to go by what all the technical guys think your car is then.
Cheers
Stu
Thanks for anyway trying Stu. I\'m now pretty sure it\'s a car.
anyway trying, I\'m now speaking Japanese.
Nice car Gary,
I love those gauges. Do they reduce your visibility??(hope I spelled it right......)
Cheers
just to add confusion
I have two oil coolers, front strut brace and rear wash wipe but I\'m 99.99999999% sure mine\'s a R1. I had a front spoiler too (but had to take it off before my driveway destroyed it)
:)
No they don\'t reduce visibility, but I keep knocking the ash off my fag on them.
It\'s people like you we smokers got a bad reputation.....
just kidding....
Thinking of getting some gauges, but they cost so much...
:rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin
Don\'t despair. I made mine out of old toilet roll tubes, some sticky back plastic, and some straws from burger king. Every man needs a hobby.
I have found out what the details on the white sticker are. The tyre type and size. So that was a complete waste of time.
ooops.
I should have said something. I can actually read some of it, plus my girlfriend\'s Japanese and she was here.
Lol at the Tyre rating sticker. :rollin
I say you have a Type R dude. Also, I have seen some Type R\'s with twin oil cooler\'s and rear wipers. It could always have been added. :)
I think your right Freddy. Type R it is. If anyone has other ideas please, please keep it to themselves. Thanks for all your help.
So you have got the OEM Mazda red engine strut brace, My Type R has rear wash wipe as well. You bottom lip spoiler may have been taken off. To confirm you have a Type R check for the second oil cooler, look through the intake I have marked out and you should see the second oil cooler heat exchanger unit. If its there you have a type R.
This is the one he means.
Mine does have PS and A/C so you cant trust this 100%.
Also depends on the year. mine is \'94.
The special edition pack on mine.
Included Mazda side skirts.
Fog lights.
Interior pad for ash tray.
Interior pad for left leg rest.
plated rx7 door scuff plates.
But has normal R2 stuff.
Mine must be a base spec R2 version
As it does Without leather or suede seats, doesnt have the wiper or sunroof
2 seat with plastic bins.
But it is R2, so it has front and rear tower braces,
oil coolers etc.
I learn more as well. thanks guys
My Tyre card.
interesting that mine is rated for 17" rims as recommended by the factory. in \'94 this would have been a big thing.
