Title: stop the squeeling
Post by: eyedee on February 05, 2005, 05:35:49 PM
Hi,
Apologies for the possible daft question, but...  I had new belts put on the RX7 Type-R about 1000 miles ago by Geoff at Re:Worx after they shredded whilst driving down to Geoff ar Re:Worx!    I have just noticed a pretty quiet squeeling coming from the furthest left wheel of what I think is the timing belt (the belt on the left hand side of the engine bay).  It also squeels loud like your braking v hard in sharp burst intermitently.  Does this mean the belts are failing or is there a simple solution?  I really dont want to have to drive 150 miles back to Portsmouth if I can sort it at home.
Cheers everyone  :wave

belts tend to stretch a little  shortly after they have been fitted. It might be an idea to re-tension them.

It could also be the pulley wheel bearing, it may need replacing.

squirt just the belt with a small amount of WD40, if it stops the noise its just the belt. The other common problem is air pump failure I think.

thanks guys.  A tiny squirt of WD40 and everythings a-ok!  :)  I was beginning to worry for nothing.
