Firstly, what are the REAL figures a standard car sould be producing? Min\'e a 92 FD3S, figures i\'ve been quoted are 265bhp, and 0 - 60 in 4.9 (mazda advert) The car i\'ve bought has just had a new engine, which i took great care to wear in at half boost, now it\'s worn in, i had the boost turned back up, fitted Apexi filters, and a Blitz NUR spec exhaust, yet it\'s still no faster than my mate\'s prelude vtec with an exhaust and filter. there is a large initial pull as the first turbo kicks in, but then it seems tame as it goes through the rest of the rev range almost as if the second turbo isn\'t boosting??? should you feel the second turbo kick in? or am i just mis informed about the cars spec? Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Mark
Should beat your mates car easy I think. Have you got a boost gauge fitted??
You should feel the second turbo kick in a little and then pull strong.
i take it from your turning boost down comments you have a boost gauge? If so what readings are you getting thru the rev range? (get someone to read this so you can watch road

lol) if not essential bit of kit get one & do as above....
You should most definitly feel the 2nd turbo kick in around 4500rpm so does at first glance sound like yours isnt.....
Figures are accurate but for a later car, although 0-60 can always be in question on manufacturers stats i think the earlier ones were quoted as 5.1 to 60 & 255bhp off the top of my head, pretty damn fast either way!!!

Im 99.9% sure that my second turbo isnt doing the business so when I took it to mazda I asked them again and again to find a fault with it. They had it for a while and said all is fine!!! So I told them to look again and they can not find anything wrong!!
I ran a boost guage on mine - 2500 - 4450 rpm was 12-14psi and when 2 turbo kicks in @ 4500 rpm the guage drops to 5psi and then to 2psi - it feels like easing off the accelerator!! There must be something wrong?.
If you have just had a rebuild then it cant be cracked pipes cause surely they would have found that - The actuator (sp?) for the 2nd turbo could be hanging off (the circlips that hold them on are prone to rusting and are naff)
There was also another peep on here that had the actuator put back on and the garage had (i dont know the particulars) used a nut and bolt to hold it on - once it had opened up it stayed open cause the nut was too tight.
Thats all I can think of for now?
well yer 2nd tubby clearly aint doing it\'s thing from yer boost readings so MAzda clearly showing their lack of expertese...
Get it to a rotary?RX7 expert i guess eith WGT or Dragon will be the nearest/easiest for you?
Who did rebuild?

Does the condition of the engine have some bearing then?
QuoteMAzda clearly showing their lack of expertese...
They told me that they had to ring Pip!!!!
it\'s a fairly common thing as i\'ve read which can have a variety of causes. Was more asking after rebuild to see what kind of come back you have with them sorting it etc was just a general question....?
Did they know (ie was boost gauge fitted) the boost figures i seriously doubt they told Pip that & his response was oh thats normal.
As i say if i were you i\'d take it to Pip directly to sort out properly first hand....;)

just to be picky :bandit
Mazda have a VERY good idea what makes our cars tick .... the Mazda dealer franchises you took your cars to do not ...
I bought the car off pip, he did the rebuild, and turned the boost back up  he said i need to go down and have it set up when he gets his new rolling road in a couple of weeks, but it seems to be lagging much more than that :(
took it back to pip on friday, he had a drive and confirmed the second turbo was not boosting, took the car straight away, and sorted the problem in a couple of hours.
The problem was a split pipe, and and a clip on another pipe. car is now running v well, but he still wants it back to set it up on his new rolling road in a few weeks. It leaves the prelude for dust. I took it to Santa pod today, and ran a 14.2 1/4mile, (what is a usual 1/4 mile time???) but i\'m still getting used to it trying to spin when the second turbo kicks in. I\'ll do better next time:D but did beat some skylines.
Thanks for all your help, and thanks to PIP

Sorry, you\'re right, I should\'ve said i was at Santa Pod YESTERDAY lol, (check time of post) I was there Saturday 19th. Arrived at 9, stayed till 8:30 and yep it was stupidly cold!!!! Only other rex i saw was a silver one, and only as it was leaving. Does the club organise member\'s trips there???
Ah right my mistake i only checked the date :rollin
Yep the club do go there occasionally but it tends to be for bigger stuff like Japanese performace show.
Was the Silver Rex k reg and followed by a blue MR2 if so i know those guys from another forum for northants jap cars.
i can\'t remember if the silver rex was with a MR2, only saw it once from a distance, and didn\'t get a chance to go over and say hi.
Me and a few mates are gonna make it a regular thing, going down to the pod, are you on msn? of so we can let you know an poss meet up down there, would be nice to meet another rex to run against:D

The earlier cars run the 1/4 in the 14.5 range as stock. The later cars can be a second quicker. Technique counts for a lot with any RWD launching tho - so you should be in the 13s easy after a couple of tyres ;-)
great :) Mine\'s a J reg, so i suppose i\'m doing well for my first time running. The only mods I have are a Blitz NUR spec, and Apexi filters, pip\'s told me the next step is an Apexi Power FC, has anyone got similar mods? and what power and times can I expect to get from these?
