I AM JUST ABOUT TO TRY AND ORDER A MASTER REBUILD KIT FOR
MY 1993 RX7 FD3S TO START MY REBUILD AND WANTED TO
KNOW THE CHEAPEST PRICE ANYONE HAS BOUGHT THE KIT
FOR ?
ALSO WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE BASIC REBUILD
KIT AND THE MASTER REBUILD KIT AS THE MASTER KIT IS DOUBLE
THE PRICE SO WHAT COMES EXTRA WITH IT ?
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT . CHEERS - GRAEME !!!
:bandit
where are you going to get it from. it must tell you what the differece is. if not ask them. the gasket set is about 300 quid on its own so maybe they are leaving that out on the cheap one ?
when i was looking for kits i think there was one on rotaryaviation.com which wasn\'t too badly priced. I know hurley engineering also do one, but as is always the way there reputation proceeds them..... (Best ask Si for his advice!);)
I WAS GOING TO GET IT FROM ROTARY AVATION IN THE USA !
THE BASIC KIT COMES IN AT $500 DOLLARS
THE MASTER KIT COST DOUBLE THAT AT $1000
POSTAGE TO UK IS $70
IF U WORK IT OUT THAT IS ROUGHLY £320 FOR THE BASIC KIT INC DELIVERY
THE MASTER KIT WOULD BE £620 DELIVERED
I DIDNT THINK THAT WAS TOO BAD PRICE WISE BUT JUST WONDERED WHAT U R MEANT TO REPLACE IN THE REBUILD SO I KNOW WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR .

there will be water seals around the housings and the rotors have loads of stuff on them. oil rings, apex seals corner seals. springs.
I\'m just running in my engine now after doing the rebuild my self. I used the rotary aviation master rebuild kit and can\'t recommend it enough. You get everything you need to do a proper rebuild....all gaskets, seals, shaft bearings, sealants, tips, springs etc etc. It all depends on what state your housings and plates are in, also what your plans are. I wanted all mine ported as i went single turbo, but most people would recommend it\'s best to use new housings. One of my plates was shot too so i took the decision of getting all new plates and housing. Got mine from pip all ported for about 1800 quid.
I would also recommend the video fron rotary aviation.... it\'s worth its weight in gold!!!
Adam
i believe there was talk of someone putting that very video into dvd format???
Thanks guys. I think i will order the master kit asap from that Florida Aviation !
Yeah the rebuild video has been put onto dvd now and i ordered it last week so it will be here soon.I also bought one for taking the engine out and preping it for the rebuild for the 13B so that should be very hepful too.
How long did it take for the kit to arrive from the states ?
What all did u get for the £1800 from Pip. Did he just supply the housing and do the porting for that .Did u tackle the rebuild yourself or did he rebuild it ?
Cheers - Graeme :bandit
I imagine parts and porting; if you say 250 each for the 5 housings (I know they arent that but its close enough) and 500 for porting thats about your 1800...
1800 is for brand new rotor housings, front, rear and middle plates, all ported. I don\'t think pip makes much on the parts but just the porting as i priced up the parts myself and his pices were exactly the same Mazda gave me, so i just let pip sort it all.
I did the rebuild my self, just for the experience. Well worth doing if you have the time and space.
The kit took a just over a week to get here. It all depends if they have full stock of everthing. Rotary aviation are very good, think i spoke to lisa. Very helpful, and good comunication.....which is rare from the states.
Cheers
Adam
Cheers Adam ,
Do u recommend that i replace the housing ?
I have never tackled a rebuild b4 so i am a bit apprehensive to try it incase i muck it up.My friend is a mechanic and reckons he could do it but he has never done an Rx7 before so if he charges me by the hour it might become expensive.
I live up in inverness in Scotland and i havent found anyone up here to even give me advise. They nearest company is over 300 miles away so i am in two minds what to do . I might phone a few of the companies on this forum and get some prices . Can u recommend a few to me.
Again thanks for the help . I will get it rebuild yet (lol). It has been lying untouched for 3 months till i decide the best option.
Regards - graeme
:D
Any of the company\'s above(banners) will do a rebuild, but there is also WGT Developments, pip. He is also very good.
All depends on the condition of your old housings and what your plans are. Most people/dealers will recommend using new housings and it might save you a few pennies in the future if you plan to upgrage. Your best bet is get the old engine stripped down and see what the damage is. The video from rotary aviation has an inspection section. It shows you how to check all the components to see if they are ok, reusable. With the video you can\'t really go wrong, just take your time. I have never rebuilt and engine before from scratch but i must say with the help of the video it was easy (ish) :)
Cheers
Adam
Hey, GJa7.
I say just go for it and do it yourselsf. I have done it 5 times and I am no mechanic! You just need finesse in quite a few places, but the video will see you right. Its grown up meccano, really.
And to me its way easier than a funny up and down engine, what with springs, levers, chains, timing, and the like!

haha, the guy I got launched had resurrected it with a link to some shady US autoparts site, he\'s been doing it loads on here under different usernames so I\'m making it my goal to root him out!!! :P
