Title: Spirit-R\'s
Post by: andrewrx7 on January 29, 2005, 11:57:56 PM
To waste a few hours of my time, I have put together a small web site on the Spirit R (web site (http://www.spiritrx7.com) ). Not finished yet, but getting there!
Just asking if anyone has any info/pictures etc, or if they have a Spirit, whether you want it up for public display? And before anyone suggests "do a search for info".......I have carried out many!!:D

Thanks,
Andrew

nice site man!

was going to suggest andrew\'s, but you\'ve already got it on the site (saw it a couple of weeks back- she\'s a beauty!!)

i thought there were only a couple of spirit-r\'s in the country though?

I was hopping that it is not only UK owners that read this forum, so might get others, rather than just mine and Andrews. I\'m guessing most are probably in Japan though. I\'ll have to wait and see!

Cheers,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Well done, what a great site  :) :) :) :) :) :)

You have every right to feel very proud of it and l am sure given time it will help other Sprirt owners such as yourself and people wanting info on these great cars.

A while ago Miguel posted some really pics of a Titanium model that would look great on your site.
If you want them and can\'t find them, mail me and l will try and source  them if l can for you.

Hi there,

Several more pages now added to the site: more with general Spirit pics (including the crashed one featured on rx7clubs.com recently), plus starting to build up a record of whats happening with mine.

As always, any suggestions/corrections/info/pics, more than welcome!

Cheers,
Andrew

As for the bits and pieces - i\'m sure I\'ve seem the clear reflectors on ebay from time to time, but I\'d guess some of the parts suppliers advertising on mrc would sell or get hold of them....and the front bumper to. It is a std Mazda item, for the 99-on 7\'s. Apparently they can be fitted to pre-99 cars, but some modification is required. Wheels are BBS, these were for the Spirit specifically, but you can get extremely similar ones for probably alot less than these ones cost.

Excellent site mate!! Keep up the good work.

I know from first hand experience how difficult putting together a small\'ish website, and making it look good, can actually be - it\'s not as easy as it seems!

All the best,
Jon

Thanks!

And yes, web site took a long time to put together - its done for a bit of fun. I\'m sure alot of other people could do better, but its as much as I can do really! It achieves what I wanted to do. There\'s not really alot more to add, other than a few more pics, and keeping a history of mine!

Cheers
Andrew

Well you can\'t have mine just yet!!

If someone ever gets a model report accepted for later 7\'s, Spirits may become available (I seem to remember RX Heaven (?) were saying they were having a go on a series 6 (if it gets approved, not sure if the report will be applicable to series 7 or 8 though)).

For the time being, it is nice to live in exclusivity though! :cool Supposedly only 3 in the UK at the moment. ;)

You\'ve got to love the exclusivity of RX-7\'s in general, but to be 1 of only 3 in the UK - that\'s pretty good!

I\'m pretty sure I\'m the only Rex within the town I live in, although I know of one other in the neighbouring town/village. You could say "I\'m the only Rex in the village".

I\'ve got a UK FD and intend keeping it in one piece, someone mentioned recently that they had it on good authority that there are only about 40 UK ones left. Few more winters and the figure might drop further.

Just bought a Racelogic traction control system for mine, will get it installed soon, should mean even less chance of mine ending up as a statistic!

regards

Gareth

I got mine second hand through a member here but they are easily available frmo a number of suplpiers in the country. The company who makes them is called Racelogic, their systems are pretty much top of their game from what I can gather and are used in loads of very expensive motors.

I\'ve not had mine fitted yet due to lack of funds with buying a house but should be in and fitted by end of summer. My car\'s only half boosting at the minute so not crazy fast anyway

The system hooks into the ECU and takes information from the ABS system to determine wheelspin, on detecting this it will cut the fuel injection system. All this is done in milliseconds. The racelogic unit has variable levels of slip that can be setup ranging from wet 0% right up to 30% or off.

I\'ve not found much information from people installing over here but in the states a few people are running without any probs on the rotary engine.

Hope that helps.

Gareth

P.S. my system also has launch control, will be worth a play but don\'t fancy cooking my clutch. :D

Hi Andrew

Your website mentions:

Quote...Mazda had been building the RX7 for 24 years, through 3 "generations" and 8 revision models, before it decided to finally sucumb to the ever increasing pressure of enviromental policies, and stop production in August 2002...

What exactly were these environmental concerns and how did they impact production so significantly?

I would be fascinated to hear about any more information that you might have on this subject.

Thanks

Pipps

The changing emissions laws gradually killed off the Rx7 line in every continent.  Given the age of the design etc it wa not practical to revise it again in order to meet the requirements.

Nice page there man! Would be nice to a site like that devoted to the FC3S Infinni versions III and IV.

Again another last hurrah before the end (FC\'s died out and production of FD\'s began) Not much info out there for those cars. Production numbers were something like 900 for the III ver and 700 for the IV?

RARE and lush! Lol!

Pretty much as Brett says, I believe. I\'m afraid I don\'t have exact information though - I was generalising my comments based on what I had read at the time.

What exactly do you mean?

Does the Rx7 produced particularly high CO2 emissions?

Is this something characteristic of the rotary engine in general?

Thanks for helping me understand this.

In short - Yup.

High CO2 and Particlates, iirc.  The rotary engine is fairly impressive in the power it generates from a small size, but it\'s not overly efficient in the power it extracts per litre of juice it drinks...

I believe that is why UK models have 2 Cats (pre-cat and main cat), and why the hardest bit of the MoT is (usually) passing the emissions test...
