Title: how to get ecu codes from a 92 r jap import?
Post by: 907 on January 29, 2005, 03:03:14 PM
I\'m having a few emission problems and I wanted to check the ECU fault codes.  Is this possible on a jap 92 as I was under the impression that they didnt fit the check light in japan untill 98... am I going to have to take it to a garage?

You can, well you can on mine and its a 92.  They is a plug under the bonnet on the nearside near the front, had mine read the other day.  If you near MK i can point you to a place that will do it for you, failing that its a Mazda \'Stealer\'

it\'s not as easy as the US models - you need to wire up a little LED flasher to read the codes.  Do a search on rx7club.com - as I found a very good \'how-to\' there

there all the same from any country any year unless there a OBD 2 connector then its a garage

you use the diagnostic plug on the left handside strut tower its a black or grey box with 3 lines of terminals

you can either short it out to read from dash or connect a single led light

codes work in long and short flashes first a long then a short
a long indicates 10 so two long would be twenty
a short indicates 1 so six short would be six
ie 2 long and 8 short would be 28
fault codes rotate so write down one and go until it reappears

you use fen and ten terminals with led

to erase fault codes - disconnect  earth battery terminal then get in car hold brake pedal down for 20 seconds to remove voltage in computer

then reconnect terminals recheck fault codes and which ever stayed is a permanent fault until you fix problem

all the best
