Title: no power at 4000 onwards
Post by: Col on January 29, 2005, 07:47:24 AM
I have just had a rebuild at Dragons and nearly at 1000 miles, run the car in properly. On saturday took the car out and wanted to open her up for the first time since the rebuild .

All was fine untill 4000 though to 6000 rpm, it was really bitty and no power took ages to go though the range.

At the end about 5 miles, the car on idle was panting and a real bad smell of fuel.

Going back to Ross in feb, just wanted anyones thoughts on it?

Thank you Col

have u checked all your vacuum hoses? Sounds like a problem with the 2nd turbo possibly (but that\'s a pure guess) I know a lot of people have vacuum hoses slipping off or splitting and that causes the 2nd turbo to lose power.

Speak to Ross before anything else.
It should allways be the first port of call to go to the person that has built the engine, maybe he has put a safety rpm or boost limit for running in and/or the map might be conservative.
That way it protects the engine while running in from burst\'s of enthusiasm. We all know what it is like when someone has a quick car come up behind them, the temptation is I\'ll give them a go,it won\'t hurt just once.
Regards
Carl

thanks for the replies, I have spoke to Ross he is going to have a look in Feb, he also mentioned the vacuum hoses. Just the car stinks of fuel, do not think it is the second turbo that  seems to run fine. Could it be over fueling??

Does the car idle ok now? have a look under and around the plenum for fuel leaks. Take it easy before u get back to Ross, no point doing damage for the sake of it.

Is the car on a standard ecu, or apexi?

It is on a kinghtsport ecu non programable, do not think it is using anymore fuel than normal! just really wierd how it feels.
