Title: Houghtons
Post by: jetpilot on January 25, 2005, 01:33:33 PM
Well ive tried, no that impressed to be honest, £1800 for my FC Cab with mods, limited mileage too and i am a old boy too at 34, no points, full no claims. I was shocked to say the least.

AON then came through with £358.73.

Call AON in my opinion.

Hi.

Gotta say they\'re still doing it for me.

568 fully comp on 5k miles per year.

Thatcham Cat1 a rewuirement.

I\'m 29, they said I should be 30 really but being as I have a reasonable amount of experience with monsters, they\'d do it anyhow.

If you\'re reading this one guys thanks, great deal.

I thought that was pretty good and I\'m 30:)

you\'re all punks. (i\'m jealous)

i\'m havin a hard time getting insurance.

A couple of times, i\'ve nearly had arguments over the phone about the fact that its a 1.3, not a frickin 2.6 or 2.3 or whatever else you have on ur crap computer.  One guy actually said to me - "i find it hard to believe its a 1.3, but if you\'re sure this is the case then we can\'t insure you"  aaarrrggh!

do a lot of you guys ask them to go with 2.6 for arguments sake?

Also, i\'m in the unfortunate position of having 0 NCB.  This is because i\'ve been an additional driver until now.  (just to clarify - i have a totally clean record since i started driving 8years ago) Tesco were just about to give me a quote, spent about 20min on the phone and was nearly at the finish line when the guy said i needed at least 2years NCB to qualify.

As of recently, Houghtons won\'t do 25year olds any more.

AON don\'t like me because i don\'t have any exp with fast cars.

Aggravates me that some ppl will only do fully comp and not let me choose TPFT.  Why is this?

i guess i\'ll carry on trying.  Still got Bell Direct, Elephant, Tradex and a few others to try.  Not gonna bother with Anal Flux after what\'s been said of them as of late.

If any1 has any help/advice i\'d love to hear from you.  Best quote i\'ve got so far is elephant - £1343.10 TPFT but this was an online quote so is probably inaccurate.

I\'ve seen a general trend of insurance companies "tightening their belts" on insurance, it coincides with seeing a lot of RX-7\'s getting written off over the last few months.  No coincidence I\'m sure.

Personally I decided that I wouldn\'t attempt to get a high insurance group car until I was 25 - made that descision when I was 20.  That way I could accumulate plenty of NCB and be of a more insurance friendly age.

I know that plenty of people under 25 have FD\'s, but I know of problems that people are having getting re-insured.

The main stream insurance companies were a joke (e.g. Tesco £5k, Elephant didn\'t know their @rse from their elbow), which left AON, Adrian Flux and Houghtons.  Houghtons beat AON by a long way, didn\'t even try Flux.  But things have moved on in 18 months.  There are more FD\'s in the country and are more affordable and therefore probablilty says more will be in accidents.

I realise this probably hasn\'t helped much, but might explain a few things.  TPF&T means the insurance company will still have to pay out damages to other people - although I have to say, thankfully all the FD incidents I\'ve heard of late have not involved any other cars etc, so payouts would just be to the council etc.

Let us know how you get on.

Chris.

the 1.3 vs 2.6 will have no bearing on insurance as it\'s still the same high risk group 20 car :wave
Still gota get off me arse & argue with DVLA about it mind..........

Regarding the 1.3 vs 2.6 issue...

its not that i\'m necessarily trying to get cheaper insurance by stating my car as being a 1.3.  Its just that in this day and age, from other forum members information it seems important that you declare all mods and your vehicle accurately.  When the guy on the phone says its important that you know the engine size - when i reply with "its definitely 1.3"  they can\'t proceed because they don\'t have that spec on their computer.

what the hell am i supposed to do - lie?!

dont make me get in touch with my DVLA bull **** mode but er yes basically agree with their lie if that\'s what you want to call it as long as you have the correct model of car they\'re thinking of then no point doing yourself out of a quote just cause they\'re following the DVLA guidelines (cough)bull shyte(/cough)
