hi, im looking at using a 13b engine with an auto box for a kitcar.
could anyone point me in the right direction as to were i could buy a crashed/front cut one from? and what sort of money would i be looking at?
many thanks. darren
Front cuts are still worth good money so you\'re probably better off buying just the motor and box. A running 13B-REW is not cheap though, auto box shouldnt be too much however...
yea but im going to need all the bits like loom, intercooler ect ect.
what do you cal good money?
could i get a smashed up one or a cut for under 4.5k?
what if i brought a whole car and broke it myslef, is there a high demand for rx7 bits?
dont mention breaking an FD on here - there will be people lined up around the block for bits :)
lol, well its just an idea im toying with :D im either going to use an rx7 lump or save some cash and use a nissan 200sx turbo engine......mmmmmm decisions decisions
all depends on what sort of money a crashed rx7 can be brought for
why not use a TII as a donor, they are simpler have almost the same tuning potential as the 13B REW engine and I\'m sure a rusty TII would be an easy find.
a twin turbo engine might not be the the best thing for a light kit car either, they come on boost early and low grip and low weight would probably make for a pretty violent combination. With a single turbo you probably have a more predictable "lag" before all that power arrives.
whats a TII?
is that the mk2 with the 2.3 enginge?
they all have a 2.3 engine ( ish )
the TII is a Mk2 RX7 ( Second Gen )
its a turbo charged engine ( single turbo ) and puts out about 200BHP at the fly
they are easy to come across now and you can pick them up for about 1K
less things go wrong - but are slower than the 3rd gen
like Mike says - the 3rd gen may be a bit tooo much for a kit car
they are still a cracking engine - and even better in a light weight kit car
ah i thought the 13b lump was a 2x600cc rotor block :rollin
or is the mk3 a 1.3 and the mk2 a 2.3? sorry but dont know much about these engines.
ah right
the 2nd & 3rd gens are 654 swept cc ( so total of 654 * 2 = 1308cc )
the dvla labeled them as a 2.354 because of the equivelent power output ( dont quote that figure !! )
so these engines are a 13B ( 1308 cc ) - the first gen is a 12a - so that has a smaller engine - although i have no idea what size it is !!
the cars are also known as FC or FD
this comes from
First Gen - FB
Second Gen - FC
Third Gen - FD
RX8 - FE
the fc/fb etc.. are part of the chassis number
and here endeth lesson 2 :)
ah ok thanks for explaining that:D
right well i recon a mk2 might be better then purley on cost......are the parts ok to get hold of? :D how about relieability?
what sort of money is a standard rebuild on one of these?
thanks. darren
so on the v5 does it say 1300cc or 2300cc (ish)
need to keep the engine size under 2.0ltr you see as the guy im building it for has convictions on his licence and they wont quote him for over a 2.0ltr:(
the v5 will ALWAYS be the sting in the tail - some say 1.3 some say 2.6 - and the DVLA are trying to close the loop hole in this !
and rebuild costs - no idea - although i think the FC is cheaper than the FD
parts for the fc - yeah not bad - ebay is your best friend
rebuild costs vary depending on
a) where you get it done
b) whether you use new housings or not
c) whether or not you remove & fit the engine or let the workshop do it
For an FC Turbo II you are looking at circa £1800 - £2200 give or take
for the FD average rebuilt cost seems to be round the £2500 mark
The FC TII engine if looked after should last 80-100k
the FD Engine is closer to 60k
btw can anyone tell me why the FC is a 2.4 according to the DVLA and the FD is a 2.6 when they both have 13b engines (I know the REW is a different engine but it is still a 13b)
ok how about the auto box in the mk2? any good or is it a weak link?
if you want to attempt a rebuild yourself dependin on what parts need replacing you are looking at between £400 (just apex seals and Oil Control rings) to about £1100 for housings and all seals (these prices may vary depending on where you get the bits)
yea would always do it myself;) dont trust any garages after previous encounters:mad:
£1100 aint to bad for everything:)
my main concern is getting it re registerd as a 1.3:(
speak to Scooby_Si on here, drop him a pm or something as he had a long war with the DVLA which seemed to last most of last year!
thread was/is here (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4041&highlight=registered) damn it i gota get my finger out & try & finish that off basically i haven\'t yet replied to their last BS letter as yet.....
