Title: Who works with who?
Post by: andrewrx7 on January 18, 2005, 04:52:13 PM
Just an idle curiosity question really - with the rotary expert garages few and far between, how many work with each other? Or are they all independant affairs, and never-the-twain-shall-meet??

Think Andrew means do the rotary experts from each garage co-operate with each other over certain matters - maybe sharing ideas and advice (except where project and drag cars are involved of course :D ), or do they primarily just do there own thing and stick to themselves???

Could be wrong, just the way i read it......

For example, does each garage/workshop carry out their own re-builds or do any remove the engine and send it out? Is there much communication between the workshops? Like i said, idle curiosity more than anything, just that there are so few in the country, I was just wondering how well they got on with each other etc.

I can speak from my own personal experience of running a rotary shop.
I get on pretty well with most of the other rotary garages in the country.
I have asked most of them from time to time things and they likewise have done the same with me.
I find that most of the rotary garage community are a very good lot,not at all like the Skyline boys and even some technically valuable ideas are discussed fairly openly with each other too, which is nice.We all seem prepared to help one another out if for example we get stuck for a vital part and the like.
I don\'t think that there is much bad feeling either.
The competitive side of things is in actuality mostly friendly rivalry and there is some banter between us but it is often meant only in a jestful way,and all helps us to progress more than we probably would without it.
As far as I know, everyone does their own rebuilds,it wasn\'t allways like that though.
Regards
Carl

From my time at RE:Worx I\'d say thats a good summation by Carl. A good example is Geff/RE:Worx and Tim/RX Motors; they talk/giggle/wind each other up on the phone a lot and have been friends for many years. They swap info and ideas and can be found at the drag strip at the same time more often than not. They do business both ways and Tim is often at the garage picking stuff up and dropping stuff off. And seeing how little power his RX8 is making this week on the dyno :rollin

I think most of the guys are on good terms, and I know in RE:Worx\' case at least a reasonable amount of business is transacted amongst them.

To my knowledge all the main guys build all their own engines these days.

I think the shear nature of RX Motors, mean that almost everyone that deals with Rotor Motors, ends up on the phone to Tim about on thing or another. From engines to window switches, advice to wind-ups, the phone never stops. I got Ross a treat one lunchtime, called him pretending to be a potential customer with serious attitude LOL! ME: "sounds to me like you don\'t know what your talking about" ROSS: "I beg your pardon?" ME: "you heard me!" LOL I couldn\'t keep a straight face and Tim and Matt were laughing too loudly ROSS: "is this a wind-up.... you ****... what, bored at lunchtime again?" LOL! Then he called a few weeks later and pretended to be Pip! LOL.:rollin

Hi Rich, haven\'t seen you in ages, I\'ll have to jump in the truck some time and "pick some stuff up".
