Title: back window seal
Post by: G@NDY on January 14, 2005, 05:00:12 PM
my window seal has been out for a couple of weeks now after i saw it flapping in the mirror and ripped it off instead of letting it scratch the car! I ordered 1 from mazda as my mate works for autoglass and said it needs to come out and get re-bonded, he would do it on the side so just get the parts. They said 23 quid it will be here in a few days went to pick it up today, wrong part they had ordered me the front window foam and the cost of the part that i wanted was 85quid !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  i know i sound like a cheap skate but 85 quid for a bit a cut rubber is ridiculous. Now what can i do? Its the peterborough meet is in a few weeks and it will look like a right pile of naff:(

I\'m almost in the same boat, my rear screen seal is about 1cm short (there is a gap at the bottom).

Keep us informed how you get on as I will need to do mine at some point!

..i\'ve got the same problem with my back window seal, small gap where it joins and i think that this is where the water is getting into my boot lid...

...buying some black window sealant tomorrow...hopefully that\'ll do the trick ;)

hi Dave and Marc! Thanks for the replies, While i was at mazda they showed my a picture of the trim in schematic form and it comes in 3 parts the rubber trim itself which judging by the price must be made of gold!!! a clip thing and another small piece of trim that looked about an inch or two, which covers the join! if you could order that piece on its own that would save you alot of time and effort the order number for the whole rear seal is
FD01506GOB and the small piece of covering trim is
{50-615A } and the clip thing is 50-619A
as for the water leak marc both me and my mate have had the same trouble it seems to be a bit a common problem! in the end mine was diagnosed as coming in through the spoiler fixing points and the rear wiper motor seal. Hope this could be of help, best regards, Andy.:wave

..thanks for that. I\'ll check tomorrow if its dryish...i\'ve not got a rear washer so thats one less possible leaky point, spoiler fittings i had thought of...did you get the water in the boot lid and when you opened the boot it ran out???

How much did the parts cost you from Mazda??

hi marc, sorry mate but the water leak was before i owned it, but its in my receipts. the invoice reads..
Check and report on water leak into boot
Remove boot trim rear wiper motor & rear spoiler.
Traced fault to leak entering in around spoiler fixing points & wiper motor seal.
Re-sealed & Re-fitted both.
Tested.!
And for that mazda charged £74.03 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

..RESULT!!!!!!

My clip was slight raised and there was a gap in the seal, about 1cm. Bonded the clip back down, left it to dry, then used black window sealant and filled the gap, small amount placed around the clip....

...some rain last night/early morning....none in the boot lid when i lifted it!!Not a single drop of water ran into the boot, from the lid...yipeeeeeee!!

Well pleased! Strut brace, squeaky wiper and ecu#2 to fit/fix today, gonna be a busy day!!

I\'ve got a similar prob with my front windscreen, the black flappy plastic bit has decided to raise itself from the bodywork around the top corners, anyone got any ideas how I can get them to stay down - otherwise I guess the whole windscreens gotta come out!! In which case who can supply the same rubber to go around the screen as most people in the UK who\'ve had this done end up with big chunky rubber seals!

Any suggestions are really appreciated!
