Title: Sleepy eyes kit
Post by: clarkee on January 14, 2005, 03:59:05 PM
Hello - Its Clarkee the incompetant Muppett back again!!

Ive just taken delivery of one of these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4518492337&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT

Has anyone else tried to fit one of these to an imported FD?

For a start off Step 3 on the instructions says.....

"run the wire through to the fuse box located on the left hand front side as you are looking at the car from the front...."

{Err am i wrong in saying this is on the front right??????

Then step 4:
Open fuse box, you will find a fuse marked either headlights or retro [rtr]. To ensure you have removed the correct fuse, turn the headlights on, they should now light up but not pop up. The fuse may look a differrent shape they do vary and can look like a cube this is still the correct fuse to take out..

{well they dont pop up but I cant see them lighting up either!!}

The fuse removed will now be kept for later, and the two male ends on the kit cables come into play. Find the live side of the fuse box..........Insert the two male connectors into the fuse box the brown wire to the live side and the blue wire to the other side.

 WOTT!!! WHERE!! HOW!!

Now insert the fuse you removed into the two female connectors. At this point you shoul insulate the fuse wire with tape, the lights should now work as normal.........

 EH??? WOT?? HELP!!!!

I give up wheres the nearest car sparky?

"run the wire through to the fuse box located on the left hand front side as you are looking at the car from the front...."

Now i would say that this means the one in the drivers side foot well?

Hi

Dont know if this will be any help, but regarding the instruction:

To ensure you have removed the correct fuse, turn the headlights on, they should now light up but not pop up.

My pivot controller does not work with the lights on!  You turn the lights on, then set the desired height of the lights, then turn the lights off and they stop going down when they reach the desired position.  I do not think it is legal for companies to make them which illuminate when not fully open.  So the light should NEVER be on when the lids are flat with the bonnet!?!

Hope thats of some help.

Post by: Eddie on January 14, 2005, 07:45:45 PM
I am sure you should have a fuse box near your air box, I have Apexi filters  so most of the black plastic is removed and I see a fuse box on the left hand side looking at the car, (give me 20 mins and I will go to my garage and see if any are labled head lights).

Cheers

Just had alook guys/girls and no the fues box near the air filters does not mentoin lights at all, air pump and other stuff.

Just thought I would mention I stayed clear of this kit as the seller would not answer my questions about the kit  or what was in it.
Can you list what is contained in the kit for other people on the group.

Are you able to set the % the lights open?
Do you know if this kit only works when you turn the head lights on or does it work on the pop up head light switch as well?

I bought pivot headlight controller instead and it was very easy to fit took 20 mins, but I am a dab hand at removing the dials:)

Have fun and let us know how it goes.

Cheers

Hi.

I brought the same item on E-bay, I\'m the one that left neutral feedback for him.
As you need to cut the connectors off as they have been fitted incorrect, YOU NEED FEMALE NOT MALE connections to go where the fuse is removed from.

TO CONFIRM IT IS THE FUSE BOX YOU ARE THINKING! His instructions are wrong just like his wiring.

Dont worry my headlights did not light with the fuse removed, but the conversion works when all fitted.

Standing in front of the vehicle, the box just behind your right headlight.

Dont worry my headlights did not light with the fuse removed, but the conversion works when all fitted.

Don\'t negative him though!! he has already e-mailed me getting stroppy and says he is going to buy from me in the future and leave negative, GIMP!!

AND I ONLY LEFT NEUTRAL LOL!! What does he expect, it took weeks to arrive and is £2.00 worth of wire and a switch, wired incorrectly too with incorrect instructions.

Hope this helps, but PM me if you need and I\'ll post photos

Hmmm.....Shame about  the neg vibes heading the geezers way. He actually called me back to try and help and ask for more pics.

Anyways I think you are correct Eclipse2RexRII wire cutting is required.........o dear....

Regarding the fuse its the one marked retractor [bit of a giveaway - i guess].

Taking this out indeed makes the lights stay down but lit up.

You can see the fuse is female and the holder is male. Neither will fit the supplied couplings [but then I guess the live part will be where its fed from the bottom]

On removing the sealed block where the wires enter this is what you see……

and if you struggle and turn it over [hard because of wire length] you see this…..the wires do not detach from the unit…

Christ knows how you wire this thing in [maybe ill ask him]

Title: Pivot head light controller
Post by: Eddie on January 24, 2005, 11:09:32 PM
Hi

I have a pivot headlight controller for sale if anyone is interested.
Nice little unit that allows you to adjuct the % of the open headlight.
You flip your lights up, set the desired percentage on the control box, then close your lights and it goes to that setting, so it\'s all cockpit control and can be set to a variety of angles.

Fitting involves removal of the clocks only as you tap into the headlight pop up switch near the mileage clock.

40 Quid including postage.

Cheers

Just a quick question , can you put the lights on when they are only half up ??

if so be carefull , I heard of someone that had a kit that let them do that and it warped the bumper with the heat from the lights

I\'ve got the Pivot half retractor unit and when you put the lights on it lifts the lights full automatically

tintin, i\'m pretty sure the lights only go on when fully up, for the same reason you mentioned (warping palstic bumper).

i\'ll probably have a decent try at installing the kit i\'ve got over the weekend.

where did you get the pivot half retractor unit, and if you don\'t mind me asking, how much?

Nope totally given up than that idea. It is currently installed in my glovebox in a tangled mess.

Ive got a new front end on my car and i reckon it will look crap anyway.

If anyone wants to by the wire of me you can have it for a fiver and a self addressed envelope.

If they were my pics, then they wont show as ive changed servers.

Cheers

I got mine from Takakari think it was about £50 or so , I remember it was a fair bit cheaper to get it from Japan instead of Edge here in the UK

Cheers mate, Funny you should say that, cos I was about to put a thread up to see if there is any local meets, as I still have a slight miss now and again when ticking over and wanted some opinions from other Rex owners. people say an air leak but I can\'t see it being that and have checked.

Anyway I\'ll check out the meet details and will likely be down there.

BEEN SO BUSY lately with work AFTER 5 -6 months of ownership I\'ve still not been cruising, so its about time.

Forward that to eBay. eBay totally depends on people not abusing the system!

I know this is a really old thread but was wondering what rate toggle switch was used and was it a 3 way (on-off-(on)) or a two way (on-off).

Im guessing that the rate would have to be 30A toggle switch  to stopp it from melting, but can not find one for love nor money.

Have done mate, they do a 3 way one but only rated upto 6A and a 2 way one (which i dont think will work, as you need a pluse setting) at 10A.

When i asked them about it they said either find out what the headlight motors pull in Amp wise or for saftey match the fuse that is in the box which is a 30A.

I think that as you are putting a switch in between the motor fuse and its relay it should use the one already in the relay box.

Its like the standard switch in the dash its just that you have a pulse feature on the toggle switch so you can control the angle of lift.

Does any know what electrical rate the standard dash switch can take.
