Hi peeps
OK, some advice would be greatly appreciated. I’ve only had the car a few days and it has this problem which is spoiling the whole ‘driving fab new car’ feeling you get :( :(
PLEASE PLEASE HELP
When I accelerate and the turbo starts to wind up and the boost increases, the car feels like it hesitates, holds back and back fires a lot. Misfiring? I have read the post from Luciano (who has been an absolute star via PM) but im not convinced it is the same problem.
I think I first noticed this begin to happen after whilst in neutral I revved it up and down to see if the BOV kicked in. May well be completely unrelated. Anyway, this was not noticeably present whilst taking the car for its test drive a few hours before. So it appears the fault has just occurred (just my luck to be honest)
About ten years ago I had a modified RS Turbo, I put some of those Spitfire plugs in it and it did EXACTLY this. Almost like its misfiring, plugs couldn’t cope with the boost?? But I changed them and the problem was solved. Does this sound like a likely cause here? It has just had a service by a specialist though. Could it be a faulty plug? Or may be one of the HT leads?
Luciano has suggested going to a dealer to see what fault codes I get. One thing though, it has a Knight Sports ECU, can the dealer still do this? Also, would the ECU reset procedure still work? (disconnect battery, foot on brake…)
Thanks in advance
Mark
Im tempted to say its overboosting, but I dont really know anything so you should see what other people say :D
u say it has been serviced by a specialist...there are only a handfull of specialists floating around and the prob with these cars is one fault can have many causes..specialists i know of are geff at re worx/carl at hayward rotary/tim at rx motors and pip at wgt depending on location it is best to book it and get a proper set up and then enjoy.trouble shooting otherwise can be time consuming and frustrating
Do you what it is boosting to?
Solenoid pack in my opinion, see if you can find a speciliast with an fault diagnostic thingy. That will tell you.
I live in Daventry just north of Northampton and i use Geff at Re-worx. It may seem a way to go but i\'ve found him and his work to be spot on. Always willing to help with stupid questions asked by the FD owner wishing to solve a problem or just improve there FD knowledge. IMHO.
thanks for the words of advice guys. It was serviced at WGT, so looks like the wrong spark plugs is out of the question. The specialists you mention? Where are they based? That sounds like my best bet. Has anyone heard of Jimmys? What are they like?
Did notice something today, it seems to have a blow in the exhaust near the engine, but the exhaust is stainless steel??? Could that cause the ECU to go into limp mode?
wgt are one of the specialists give them a call and ask to speak to pip by all accounts he is the expert..its poss someone not as good as him worked on the car
ive had the missing on my car under high boost and found it to be the plugs, i cant run 9s under high boost its got to be 10s but there like rocking horse poo
Can deffo recommend Pip @ WGT engineering in Northwich, he does all the work on my rx and is top man !!!!
