Title: Car History of F275 OHV, and hello
Post by: FLYINGRX7 on January 10, 2005, 10:55:06 AM
Dear All,
I have recently purchased a 2nd Gen RX7 and I have had a few problems (Flooding engine, got help from this forum :) ) but I would really like to find out any information about this car the details are as follows:
Reg F275 OHV,  Black 13b engine.

The Alarm on it doesn\'t have a key fob with it so I want to disconnect it. It\'s a scorpion 138 any help on this would be great.

I live in Cheltenham, and I did see a suggestion of a Midlands meet, is this happening? Can any body suggest a suitable meet.

Thanks in advance.

Bad idea to post your reg and chassis number mate!

I would get in touch with GAP security, they came and sorted out my alarm a few years ago and I have no complaints.

Funnily enough that reg does sound familiar, got any pics of the car?

Thanks for the reply.

Yep, that was pretty stupid to post all that info. I\'ve taken it off and just left the Reg.

I\'ve attached some pics of the mean machine!!

I\'m still having problems with the starting. I have followed the "procedure" but to no avail. I\'ll try with some new spark plugs tomorrow.

This problem started when I disconnected the radio, could this of reset the alarm?

I have contacted Scorpion Alarms but not had a reply.

any advice greatly recieved.

Chris

Is that the car that was up for sale on ebay about 6 months ago?  It was on their for ages, it came from the Blandford area, maybe Tim at Rx motors would know something about it?  It may also be worth checking up on the previous owners, if you can find out where the car was serviced (assuming it was at a main dealer or a specialist) then you should be able to get some indication of the life its been leading.

 Have you tried this proceedure:-

 1) remove EGi fuse from under the bonnet
 2) Turn engine over for about 10 secs
 3) Re-insert Egi fuse
 4) Start engine

(Egi fuse can be found in the fuse box next to the ignition coils)
(If it still wont start easily try pumping the accelerator when your trying to start, it shouldnt work but for some reason does help!)

Sadly though I\'d say you are going to be looking for a rebuild, poor starting is an indication of poor compression...

I used to own this car!! The engine threw a rotor tip when I was on holiday in Ireland and I sold to it a local dealer there as I could not find a rebuild specialist. That was in Summer 1998. Goodness knows how it ended up back in England. Thanks to this car being so much fun I am now on my third RX7. Anyway, based on the state it was in when I sold it, it must have a rebuild at 90,000miles.

When the car was up for sale in Ebay the last owner said he bought it from RX motors, so as the previous post suggests, checking with them for more history would be a good idea.

Cheers
Stuart

Thanks Brett and Thud,

I got the damn thing to start!! :D

I removed the spark plugs, they were covered in a black goo type substance, So I bought some new ones. I then put some oil in the spark plug holes. Put new ones in. Bingo !! Started straight away. The smoke from the exhaust(s) was unbelieveable - something out of Hammer Horror.

I let it turn over gently for a few minutes and then the smoke stopped and then the engine sounds back to normal.

I also discovered what a little bronze key did in the glove box.
It switches off the Alarm/immobiliser!!

Yes, it is the one from Ebay. 700 Quid. Um...

Just had the body work checked over. Needs rear wheel arches and sun roof tidying up,the drivers side floor panelling needs to be replaced or welded and a new drivers side door fitted and front wing reconnected at the bottom. I think someone drove over something a bit too large.
 :rollin

Thud, Did you have the Alarm/immobiliser  fitted ? This might be along shot but do you have the serial number knocking about? I have contacted an Alarm(ed) specialist. It\'s necessary for a new key fob.

Thanks for all your help, I\'ll contact RX motors.
