I have been having probs with hot starting recently so took the car to WGT to have it checked over and the compression is low at the rear of the engine and it\'ll need a rebuild soon.
But what do I have done...
I could have the standard job done but I wondered what I could expect in terms of cost and BHP if I had a \'fast road\' rebuild done with serious porting or went single turbo.
Currently I have the standard twin turbos, blitz air filters, a decat and sports exhaust with wide downpipe and the apexi power fc.
My personal choice would be fast road as I like the power delivery of the twin turbos but if I\'m having a rebuild it may be an opportunity to massage my ego with around 400 fwhp...
Any thoughts would be very much appreciated before I talk to the potential rebuilders as I haven\'t decided where to take it yet...
All the best

Do it do it do it!!! WGT did mine with a street port and i made quite a few other mods, you wont regret it, well your pocket will but you will have a large grin on your face when its all done! :D :D
Find out how much each mod will cost and then you can see how far you can go without going bankcrupt :(
What to have done really does depend on what you want to use the car for...
If you\'re going to use it as a daily, particularly in town/traffic, I\'d stay twin and keep the porting moderate. Uber-porting will mean the idle is high and rough, twins are more tractable round town. Also you\'ll need to seriously uprate the clutch to cope with the power a single would give you so that again is much more work in town driving.
If you\'re only going to use it for weekend blats and track work then spend spend spend!
I had mine rebuild by WGT just over a year ago with street porting. It\'s been brilliant since then and runs unbelievably smoothly. I\'ve also had a de-cat, pfc and mapping and power should be somewhere well over 300 fly wheel.
It\'s often better to have the rebuild before things go seriously wrong as thrown tips can cause much damage. If you\'re unlucky like I was, the state of the internals will be so poor that they all need replacing anyway and it\'ll be bloody pricey!
Iain
Thanks for the replies...
The car will be used for weekends and track days so every day driveability isn\'t the main thing...
I\'m currently getting around 340 fwhp so was a bit concerned that I could have the uber porting done (nice phrase Iain - I like that one) and not really see a huge difference in performance hence the thought of going single turbo.
Whatever I do will be done properly so if the power demands a new clutch it\'ll get a new clutch, however funds aren\'t limitless so I need to be vaguely sensible.
So what BHP gains could I expect from having Pip carry out street porting on the engine...

Hey Dai,
Not seen you about recently, mine\'s been sat in the garage for weeks now. Really don\'t like the greasy roads at the minute.
Decided to ditch the warranty in the end so will be looking for some upgrades in the spring :)
regards

Hi Gareth
I\'m not suprised you don\'t like greasy roads given your experiences with RX\'s and less than perfect conditons!
Mines not been out a huge amount either recently simply because I can\'t guarantee it starting when it\'s hot now, still hopefully it\'ll mean more salvagable parts when it\'s rebuilt.
Hope you get the mods you want doing sorted out - are you planning on going single turbo or just having it ported...
BTW I saw a Clio V6 with an altered front end last week, looked like he\'d taken a roundabout too quick up near Asfordby - didn\'t catch the plate - wasn\'t your mate was it...
Cheers

Don\'t think it was my mates, if it was he\'s been really quiet about it! Evo magazine want to borrow it for a shoot soon as well so it had better not be his! Top555 his garage has just had an SL65 in, 1000NM torque! Now that\'s just silly! If only had £146k
Not sure what to go for performance wise, I really want to get the looks of the motor done first but if I find the BHP to be laughable (read <200) at this rolling road session up at Noble then I might be spending on a few bits and bobs before worrying about the respray.
When do you think you will be getting yours done at WGT? I was thinking about getting all my plans together, not to mention pennies and going to my parents for a week in the summer and leaving mine with Dragon in Exeter.
cheers

I would highly recommend getting at least a street port on a rebuild. I had a rebuild 12 months ago and didn\'t get a street port, have regretted it ever since. Figured it\'ll need a rebuild for porting only before it gives up through wear and tear...

Yep definitly go for a street Port, had mine rebuilt recently with new Housings and seals and a street port to the inlet and exhaust ports very good quality workmanship, definitly worth the ~500 or so extra dosh to have the Porting done. You will feel the benefit of porting past 5000 rpm onwards plus if you plan going single in the future the porting is a definite must!!
