Title: Max Performance On Stock Engine
Post by: cjle17 on January 05, 2005, 09:27:34 PM
Heres a question for the tuners out there...

What in your opinions is the maximum performance that could be extorted from a stock rx7 block and twin turbos.....with the proviso that any other part of the engine/car could be upgraded.

I would be interested on your thoughts/views on what could be achieved and what are the major stumbling blocks (aside from the \'block and turbos\') that would prevent performance being ramped up significantly.

Id say around 340-350 BHP without BIG turbo\'s and main block work..........

The stock ports and turbos/turbo manifold will be the limiting factors. Right bits and \'some\' boost you could probably make 320-350 on a good tight engine, although I\'m unsure how long the turbo pack will last...

i have a UK twin turbo, standard turbo and standard block. It depends on the mileage of your engine. With the stock setup if you bought the right bolt on bits you could probably run 1 bar of boost as long as it\'s mapped right that should give you around 360bhp!!:burnout :rollin

I\'d guess one of the keys to this would be excellent cooling.  So big rad and i/c plus water injection and you can push things a bit further.  Maybe some clever ducting to get cool air to the tubo area and the heat away too...

Might keep it running more than 10 minutes...

Other big factor would be the usage - you might get it to last if it\'s street/drag work but I\'d think circuit work would build more heat intot hte system if you\'re pushing the power envelope...

I\'m running the stock twins with a large port (for a big single in the near future) upgraded fuel pump/regulator, 10\'s all round, Apexi induction / GT FMIC with Apexi PFC and straight thru exhaust. This and just over 1 bar of boost - pulls nicely in 2nd and 3rd although I have no idea of the actual BHP as it\'s not been on the rollers. Kinda scary flooring it in Dartford tunnel and the back end stepping out! Icey roads aren\'t too reassuring either but it makes for an exciting drive which is why we all bought our 7\'s eh!!;)
