I read the advice about starting a flooded gen 3. I\'ve done this successfully with my egi. But where is the fuel pump relay situated and how do you get to gen 3 spark plugs without a pit or hoist?
You will need to take the elbow off connected to the throttle body to get the plugs out.
Untrue!!! I did it myself last night with everything still attached and didn\'t even cut myself or anything!!! It\'s best with a stubby ratchet, and once you\'ve flooded it a few times, you can reach the blasted things with ease!
You know, they could have turned the engine 90 degrees. plugs on top, intake on the side so you can\'t drop stuff into the engine, etc etc. I just don\'t think they tried...
Man! what a quick response cheers. Yeah I\'ve actually been able to see one of the plug leads from the top and did consider taking off the elbow. I\'ll definitely try this now.
Any help with locating the fuel pump relay, or is it obvious to see?

The main ecu relay is in the relay box on the right middle if looking at the car from the front and the fuel pump relay is in the relay block under the airbox scoop thing at the front of the engine bay. Remove both of these for extra effect ;)
Paul:)
You might want to read the deflood advice again because..
Unplugging the Fuel Pump Relay does NOT stop the fuel pumping on a 3rd Gen. :)
How many people have tried the can of coke thing????
I must admit when mines flooded a few weeks ago (before it\'s untimely demise) I thought about it but wasn\'t too sure if it would work.
If it is true then you should keep a can of coke as a first aid kit for your car wherever you go!
Aside from that when mines flooded - we hooked it up to a power source so the battery never died and cranked it till it started, took about an hour of trying every few minutes.
After careful consideration I decided to resort to the old faithful method of tow starting. Hooked up to the Mrs Volvo, with her driving I might add. Within 100 yards my car was spluttering into life. Revved for about 10 mins till smoke cleared and left to idle for some time. Crude but effective.
Still thanks for replies. Much appreciated.
CAN OF COKE evry time i want some one else to try it so you dont think i am crazy!
Whats this about a can of coke???
Dan!!
a half can of coke into the plennum starts a flooded car! done myself and it worked first time!!!!
where exactly into the plenum?
describe the entire process and I mite try it in emergencies!!!!
I know this is a very old thread, but has anyone tried this coke (the beverage) method of deflooding? How does it work?
wtf ??
.
wtfwtf? :D
Personally, I wouldn\'t be putting a can of coke inside my engine. Not that I know whether it\'s a bad idea or not, I just don\'t think I could bring myself to do it.
Always coke, but the question is do other beverages such as Pepsi work or is this something that coke empire have a manopoly off! (Wonder if they can market this stuff at halfruads) Personaly i don\'t see why you would want to put it in the engine in the first place to deflood when traditional methods work.
Tango however might be a diffrent matter!:evillaugh
I know, it sounds very strange. I didn\'t know about this method until it was mentioned by hmltnange in post #7.
Googling it brought me right back to this very thread. Obviously I don\'t want to be the second one to try it. According to rx7aberdeen (post #9, and #11) it works, so I want to know more, if anybody can shed some light on this...:Laugh
Heard that a little bit of oil injected into the UIM works. Wonder if this is the same principle, although you wouldn\'t expect coke to be very viscous!
Mmmm, puzzling!
Chris
mercedes sprinters are realy prone to exhaust gasses passing the injector seals, this causes very bad sludging on top of the engine to the point that you have to smash the rocker cover off to get to the cylinder head bolts, unless you pour COKE on it and leave it for a few hours, all the sludge disolves, its amazing,if it can do this and start flooded engines dont drink it.:Laugh :Laugh :Laugh :Laugh :Laugh
I heard about thte Coke thing about 1 1/2 year ago. cant remmy where but I see it
I would have thought some brake cleaner / other highly flammable gas in the plenum would have got it going just by easy ignition and blowing everything out... But then if the plugs aren\'t firing then you\'d need something to clean them.
And I\'ve seen how well coke cleans pennies!
