Title: The Big Day
Post by: Icesurf3r on January 04, 2005, 03:26:43 PM
Well guys,

Tomorrow is the big day!!!! Am picking my RX up around dinnertime, and to be honest i can hardly wait to get my hands on her!:D :D

Just wondering if any of you guys had any last minute tips for driving back safely? As it has saddened me to read of the guys who have recently wrote their pride & joy off even when been careful.

I guess the best thing really is to have an educated right foot and just take things steadily, but any other feedback would be appreciated.

Cheers

Easy right foot (even on straight bits)
Watch the boost if accelerating round corners
Smooth steering

What he said!!!

Very easy to end up going a lot faster than you think you are too, very quickly after starting off!

When it comes on boost - you\'lll feel it start to pull from 2k rpm but it really comes on line at 2.5k.  If this kicks in at the wrong moment then you could (if in 1st, 2nd or 3rd) end up in trouble!

The breaks a re great but not infallible!

Enjoy and know where you shell garages are!

Iain

as per above really.  take it easy, be gentle and progressive on all things.  braking, accelarating, turning etc.  no jerking or yanking.  Watch your speed and rpm.  second turbo comes online at 4.5k primary is spooled at 2-2.5k.  so any sudden acelleration will give boost and a surge of power.

If it is wet then keep it in a higher gear than normal. At least the 2nd turbo will take a little longer to spool.

Same as above apart from that, keep it real smooth round corners etc.

Also:

Enjoy it, they are amazing cars.

Thanks for the advice guys, but forgot to mention (in my infinite wisdom), thats it\'s actualy a single turbo model. I suppose though that those comments will still apply, but without worrying to much when the second turbo is going to kick in.

I will be taking it very steady, after all my partner in hes 1.0 ax has to keep up lol.

Will post how i got on when i get back tomorrow, but i expect to have a hooooge grin on my face for quite a while :D

Yeah, what everyone else said - take it easy...  If you\'re running a single it\'ll be about 3500 rpm before spool up, probably recommend not getting above 3500 in 1st or 2nd and only in 3rd if it\'s really dry, but then not WOT.

Seriously - take it easy...

Well what can i say apart from......

                               "OH MY F*****G GODDDDDDD"

I was completely blown away by my first driving experience of a rex, although i must admit i had a few problems with the biting point of the twin plated clutch to begin with, but am managing fine now......

It was unbelievable, the car itself handles like a dream, and when the boost does come, it comes with a vengeance! :D :D :D It\'s silky smooth and builds up nicely giving plenty of power when needed and indeed as people have said earlier in the thread, it looks so much better in the flesh, even had some little sproglings (maybe even Chavs in training) begging me not to move from traffic lights until they had taken pics with their camera phones:D

Big thanks to Freddy for his help in making this purchase as smooth as possible and for putting up with my constant questions and naggings. (Have a safe journey to Tokyo Freddy :wave ) Cheers mate!!

Hope to see you all soon at some meets and i\'ll def be at RS \'05 Hope fully with a lot more clutch control lol;)

Top man, glad you\'re enjoying the rex.

Yes, the clutch did catch you out at first, but i\'m sure you\'ll master it in no time. I\'d rather you than I driving in heavy traffic thou. ;)

Remember safety at all times, especially with a big single turbo. And have a lot of fun. :)

See you soon,

Freddy.

Babz_Audio: Your first Rex is an experience you\'ll never forget, abit like losing your virginity all over again ;) The minute you drive her i can guarantee that you will start a love affair that will last you the rest of your life!! I know i have :D

Freddy: Gettin better all the time, was driving round town in her most of last night just getting used to the clutch:) Gonna have a left leg like a tree trunk soon lol :rollin

Have been driving very safely especially round town and on bends, think it\'s best till i get alot more used to her handling and more self confidence behind the wheel of the Rex!

ICE,

Have you got the extra 2 injectors working now dude???

Hi GSB

Well Freddy said they were working when i picked the car up yesterday! Pip had set them up for me when he\'d checked the car over and did some other bits like the Ali ast and the BOV.

Not tried the car on high boost yet, but it\'s fast as fooooooook on low boost. Gonna wait for high boost till i\'ve upgraded from the F-con V ecu with an apexi and commander. As apparently no one ini UK can tune the F-Con.  Then it\'s just seeing how far can wind the boost up in time for RS 05 :D
