I\'ve just had a bit of a barney with next door over the mass of fumes coming from my rx7 that he says im gassing him with. I only use it three times a week at most and usually give it max 2mins warm up and 2 mins cool down outside my house. It is on the driveway of the house about 20ft from next door. I usually don\'t rev it pass 2k until the water temp is upto about 75-80 deg. I then let it tick over for the last 5mins before home again not reving it over 2k.
I do think im considerate, i try my best not to spend too long outside my house. More due to the noise, they can\'t even stand people getting in the car in the morning to get to work because of the noise form the door shutting. Hell its not even my daily drive and haven\'t done any miles in it in the past 2 months because of the weather
Its just had a pfc fitted and needs to be tuned. It ticks over about 1500 rpm to warm up and barble very nicely. Its basically completely standard bar the pfc, upgraded intake and exhaust. Hell i think i still have the downpipe cat on the car !
Is it me in the wrong (am i gassing him ??) or is he a moany old git with nothing to do but moan ?
As you may tell we don\'t talk very much and he wants to raise the fence to 6ft to blot us out of his view, so the fued may continue with very little said.
Has anybody else had the same problem and will a full tune of the pfc help any ? I\'m going to hopefully have it done anyway in jan / feb.
Like he said there nothing that i can do to improve the matter. Which is very true because there isn\'t !
Has anybody else been moaned at because of this or is it just him being an arse ???
Right rant over with, carry on regardless.
Shaun
must admit i dnt use mine much but i try not to leave it ticking over outside the house due noise as they can be a bit annoying..as a rule it is better not to leave it ticking over when cold anyway just get in and drive and on return u only need to drive off boost for last five minutes before u reach home no real need for leaving it ticking over at home
I\'ve been moaned at before but more for noise rather than smoke, and it wasn\'t where I live now. I\'ve usually got 4 cars down my drive and one in the road and never have a single complaint. My neighbour though has a school minibus and 2 cars parked in the road and one car parked in the drive that can actually hold 4 like mine!
If I were you I\'d let him increase the fence height if that\'s what he wants. I\'d also remove the cat from the car and run a hosepipe from the exhaust through to the airbrick in his bedroom wall.......................well...maybe not......
Tell him too stick his opinions right up his arse!!!. As RX7 owners we have a god given right too cause as much noise and smoke as we like:) . We also rule the roads and motorways so get out of the third lane all you BMW boyz and move over for some proper cars too cruise on by.
And it\'s about time the government realised how special all RX7\'S and their owners are and raised the speed limit just for us too at least 120mph on the motrways;) .
Sounds like your neighbour is abit of a curtain twitkher got a couple over the road from me very sad people, they drive Ford\'s and one\'s an XR3i cabriolet :rollin
Maybe we could have the next Rotorstck meet in your road Shaun that will get him going big time.
As regards you letting your car idle before and after driving keep on doing it mate, I do it all the time, unless he\'s willing to pay for an engine or turbo rebuild then sod him.
I would suggest an even higher fence so at least you don\'t have too even look at him;) .
Keep up the good work mate.......best regards Leigh.
Buddy , I do feel for you on this kind of dispute. I had a similar thing occur to myself with a 13b turbo 1300 coupe in oz. But gratefully we could sit down and talk about it. As far as I am aware as long as your car can pass an mot emmissions tset and isnt pumping out too much over 100decibles then it comes down to whether or not you are being considerate. And from the sound of it you do seem to be. He does seem to be a bit of a miserable git and I reckon the only thing you might be able to do to placate him is possibly idle the car out of the drive and warm it up very gradually on the road.
Good luck with it anyway. Not the nicest situation when you dont get on with a neighbour.
cheers, michael.
I\'m quite lucky it seems, when i got to work at 530am the car usually idles for 5 mins before i leave and it is quite noisey. But i have explained to both sides its a high performance car and will make alittle more noise than a average motor like:o
But they\'ve never complained and the lady nx door works with me and has never said ought???:)
Now that i\'ve said this will prob get a complaint:rollin :rollin :rollin
Oh well you cant please everybody , sounds like he\'ll moan no matter what car you have or what you do, and it\'s your prerogative to warm the car up how you like and where you like! You\'re not doing anything unreasonable.
Btw, I thought it was bad for engines to be left idleing when cold, better to start and drive off straight away (not harshly obviously) to warm up. Or does that not apply to Rotarys, anyone know?
Its more frustrating really. We never talk and if somebody leaves their car on the front he\'ll move his car on the front so nobody can park in front of his house. I usually try and let it at least get to 15-20deg on the pfc before i move, which isn\'t very long. I can spend 10 mins trundling along at 25 mph just warming it up.
Its quite funny that usually they moan about the noise we make, gassing is a new thing. Hell i haven\'t even used a full tank of fuel in the past 6 weeks, which is really good for the bank balance.
I argued that he didn\'t even know what engine it was, let alone what he was on about. When i said it was wankel when he said it needed tuning. He said it was one of the most effiecient engines. That made me laugh !
I think i am really considerate, i only spend 2 mins at most warming up and cooling down at most 3 times a week. What else can i do !
I did say that if he wanted to go halves on an engine rebuild when i needed one next month because he wanted me to set straight off made him cross :)
I couldn\'t argue about the tuning bit, it does need it. But more due to the fact i\'ve just stuck the pfc on it about 6 weeks ago.
Its quite funny to think what he may have said if it was bridgeported with a single turbo ! Which i would love to own.
Im just trying to keep it in good order, ready for more mods. Its a better car than my fto, which was decatted and loud as hell. Plus that was a daily runner.
I think he was just making excuses to raise the fence and hey i don\'t really care. As he said im very inconsiderate because theres nothing i can do about it, which basically is true no matter what i want, i\'m not swapping my rx7 for anything. Wonder what he would have said if i\'d bought a skyline or supra as a daily driver.
Its such a shame. I live in a really quiet street where everybody gets along bar him. I am known for playing with my cars, but its better than drink and drugs. God help him if a chav lived next door.
Right rant over with, at the time of good will to all men, lol.
Everyone have a good new year, im having a quiet one watching the darts with a beer in hand :)
At least all i\'ll get is the evils for the next 12 months, he won\'t complain again until he feels im off guard ! Or i\'ll just ignore him.
He used to moan about my AXGT, but it wasn\'t quiet. It never got reved out of the drive, the stereo was never turned on until i left the street.
Hes just moaning for moaning sake, wish he could get a hobby and leave it alone !
Shaun
Quotewish he could get a hobby and leave it alone
I\'m afraid YOU are in danger of becoming his hobby.............
Stuff em..... life is too short to be bothered about people like that.
I guess you dont have music on late at night ect so enjoy your car
Nope on the music front and im rarely out after 11pm, and i used to have a 140db stereo in my ax !! Bar mascarat that usually ends in a past midnight adventure !
He\'ll just be cranky over the xmas week, stuff him. Im never really home in the week, always at work.
I\'ll just end up ignoring him again. 1st time we\'ve spoken in 4 years ! Roll on the bigger fence
Shaun
A neighbour 3 doors down from me and across the road complained to me about me starting my car up and leaving it idling for 10 minutes at 5am ONCE as i had a flight at 7, i couldn\'t believe he tried to have a go at me as his nextdoor neighbour drives a harley which makes a deafening noise at least 5-6 times a day, and another neighbours boyfriend who likes to sit outside waiting for his girlfriend with his 50000000" bass box causing earthquakes in wales...not to mention there building the largest shopping centre in europe behind my road.
People who complain about things like that usually have serious psychological problems, if things like everyday noises aggravate them so much then you\'ve got to wonder how they get through their life without killing someone.
Small Penis
tell em to bolloxx !!!!! :rollin :rollin :rollin
i have a small penis but i can also get a few hundred subarus burbleing away much louder in his front garden if you like, a barbeque will havbe then flocking............
Say the word.....
lol

I filled the FD this morning and now its on empty. Only went to Manchester city and was testing the delimiter which was fitted last week ;)
On another note, We have 3 FD\'s and siblings coming home at all hours. (I just got home at 2:30am and as always let it idle for a couple of mins before switching it off. Never had complaints from neighbours. Although the chap in the street behind left a note on my window once saying the car is too loud!
He\'ll probably say nothing more on the subject. I have to admit i thought it was over noise when he asked me over at the fence ! It barbles now very nicely in the downpipe when its warming up, sounds very nice. He\'s had to quiet a life and now hes retired i think they blame us for all their minor problems.
I\'ll just ignore him again ! I definately know we aren\'t bad neighbours and they are just moaning over nothing.
Its more a shame, he could do what ever he wanted outside and we wouldn\'t really bother.
The funny thing was i was thinking about getting a dragon mid-pipe before i had it tuned to see if i can get it to flame like johns rx7 ! Bust its still got its cat on for gods sake. Unless the first cat makes all the gasses dodgy and the second picks up the peices ???
It almost makes my mind up on weather or not to do it.
I will try my best to get it tuned in jan with pip, not just for his benifit, but i want to get it upto full boost before my warrenty runs out !!!
Thanks for all the threads, makes me feel alot better. Wounder what he would have said if it was bridgeported and had that wonderful beating heart soundtrack.
While i\'m here does anybody know any good companies to get a FMIC from that will allow me to hook it upto a standard twin initially and then a single in the next couple of years ???
Cheers
Shaun
You can still have your warranty even with PFC??
As far as im aware then i still have my warrenty with the pfc. Im making sure that the only work done with the pfc is done by him and im not touching the settings till the warrenty doesn\'t exist. The car still is only running at 7psi on full boost and pip say its running very nicely with good torque in the middle of the range.
Im just trying to work out what mods i fancy next.........
I\'m seriously thinking of saving up for an FMIC and uprated rad. I\'m thinking of trying to slowly build towards a big single. Although it will take quite alot of time to do anything major, years may pass with all the bits required.
If its any help I can lay my hands on a WW2 air raid siren, that should sort \'em out!
shaun - wait till i get my car fixed , and me and john can come and visit you - and we can have a \'rev off\' in your street :)
failing that - we can move the north west meet to your house ???
I\'m over in the Uk from the 20th to the 24th, I can always arragne to turn up too, my exhaust has a questionable decibel level....

/cough/ DVD PLAYER /cough/
:)
If your willing to meet me halfway or something then i dont mind brining it up, but I\'m not driving upto Warrington just to bring you a DVD player Stu! PM if you are interested.
You Have a PM - once i write it :)
You know you\'re in trouble when your PM count is nearly the same as your posts count..............
Thats the oddest thing. They usually complain about the noise, not very often. TBH i think they prefer me having this car, its much quieter than my fto.
The funny thing was that they where complaining about me gassing them. We dry all our clothes in the front room and the hallway. This is right next to where the exhaust is and yet i can never smell anything on my clothes !
I\'ll just leave them to it, may never speak to them again. Its more a case of saying sorry to late to talk and walk away !
Cheers for all the support :)
Shaun
Well, within the first 2 days of owning my FD I popped around every house in my cul-de-sac (7 doors (not including the back doors, no) and apologised in advance for the noise level (as I\'ve never heard a car this noisy in my life) and informed them I could put the muffler on if need be, this was to every house.. but one, as he wasnt in when id knocked on the door, and it belonged to a deaf guy that despite telling him my name numerous times in the past he still can\'t get it right, the kind of guy you find yourself repeating the same sentence to again before he gets the chance to say \'what\'.
Not more than a couple of weeks later whilst pulling away from the drive he started shouting from his doorway and inbetween his random gesturing and spitting denture cream he informed me I was going to get reported and I was inconsiderate to everyone in the neighbourhood (this at 11am, on the one of only two days i drive the car), then slammed his door before I got chance to spit acid on his shoes.
Went on my un-merry way and returned not more than 10minutes later as it had wound me up so much I wanted to put his head through the wall .. knocked on his door and told him if he had a problem then he should have come knock on my door and had a chat to me about it first and not shake his fist from his doorway and run off, he backed down, said he\'d had a bad day (his excuse being he\'d fallen down the stairs .. a week ago, and was still bruised).
So anyway, to cut a short story shorter rather than ramble on and just make it \'short\' or at least not unnecessarily longer so that the point is lost within such excruciatingly bloated and incongruous text, it pays to cover your back in all eventualities, and not cut corners (ie. forgetting about the deaf guy), as for pollution, they have no comeback if its within the limits and they can complain all they like, although the less attention the better. Tell him to \'suck your exhaust pipe\' or something. Mine doesn\'t visibly kick out that much fumes however.
Warming up and cooling down I tend to drive a couple of minutes after starting up and just go [elmer fudd] vewwy vewwy quietly(..for a jet plane) and slow around the corner to the local industrial \'zone\', and just whir away slowly around there for a bit until it warms up, rather than sit idling away for 5 or 10 minutes. Same with cooling down. I\'m quite privileged to have such non-busy roads however. Curiously the bikers around here dont give a crap how much noise they make.
End of story. etc :)
I still want to put his head through the wall though...
He hasn\'t said anything since, thankfully. may have been a bad day but hell its not a loud car compaired to my last two cars. If i was changing my front pipe i know that i would put a silencer in the front pipe any way and spend the extra to reduce the chances of hassle.
The funniest thing is that its the middle of winter and he was complaining that he couldn\'t open the bed room window to get some fresh air because i was always in and out. Hell i think i only used it about 10 times in december.
Im just pulling up to the end of the drive now and seeing if that makes a difference. I just like getting to temp to 10-20 deg c and making sure that the oil has started to flow through the engine.
Just must have been a bad day for him  or his wife moaned at him so much he needed to show her that he was listening. TBH there wasn\'t much i could do to improve the matter anyway
Shaun
Hi Shaun, I think this guy is leading you up the garden path! its all a smokescreen! I reckon he wants to put a fence up anyway, and blame the need for it on you so that you dont feel able to object, or perhaps he wants a contibution! he has already contradicted himself from what you say! perhaps the smoke came from a passing truck! and he\'s using that too, in the meantime he\'s got you running round trying to appease the probably un-appeasable! but its all to easy to feel controlled by people like that, and he is making you aware of him every time you get in your car! sod him mate. he is probably jealous of you having a car like that. don\'t let him spoil it for you.
Good luck Bob
Very true, im not really bothered over it now. sod him :)
The funniest thing is i think it may have been from when i swapped my runaround diesel with my rx7, old duffer must have thought i was using the rx7 !
Can\'t argue that it needs tuning, i want more boost. 7psi isn\'t enough :)
Shaun
It is better to drive taking it easy than to idle, when warming up...
Anyway, find yer MOT and show it him, and point out that your "fumes" passed that test!
Neighbours, everybody needs good neighbours with a little understanding......
Sounds like he\'s a bit of a moaning sod. When I come home at night I\'ll drive steady for miles before I get home so I can minimize the time the car is idling. My neighbour\'s daughter complained about my old gti-r. She\'s only 17ish so I just said tough luck. I had another neighbour report me to the police because my RX had no tax on it for a few weeks while a registered it. Even though it had trade plates and on my driveway.
My neighbours **** me right off. I\'ve got one while 70billion cats that rip the rubbish open and are constantly getting locked in my garage or sat on the cars. I\'ve got another neighbour who owns a lancer estate but insists it\'s as quick as an evo and drives it like one. And the rest of my neighbours **** me off for having 2.4 children, a ford focus and a dog. My missus works in law and a huge amount of their work is neighbour disputes so I\'m going to move out next year before I end up shooting his cats. :reallymad
I just realised how old this thread is. I was looking for dash flocking and thread came up and I had to reply. :Thumbs-up :wiggle
Hi shaun,
How is your moaning neighbours these days?
Have you tried my diplomatic approach (see pic), ask him round for 1 of these! :Giggle
(http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b77/s122a/4stfu.jpg)
That picture is ace, laughed me bollox off
warm your tyres up on his driveway every morning . he\'ll like that:Thumbsup!
Every time the neighbours see me heading to my car they all close their windows :(
Had a couplke of them come down and say " my place smells like a petrol garage "
So!!!!
Close yhour windows then :flamed :Thumbsup!

Blimey old thread reserected. They moved out about 4 weeks ago because he had cancer and needed increased care. He passed away last week. Shame really they didn\'t have much to worry about but all little things made them really cross. New Neighbours are really nice and used to live accross the road. I\'ve been warm and cooling the car down away from the house to keep everyone happy !
Shaun
well i finish work at 1145 at night ive had no problems and if i did i would tell them to p### off lol
