Hello chaps
Can anyone tell me where to get hold of an LSD (in the UK?) that replaces the dif I\'ve got, rather than changng the whole axle?
I\'ve tracked some down in the states, but have no idea if it\'ll work in mine.
they were only available as standard equipment in the US and in Japan, I\'m not sure if they ever sold them as an option in the UK ? a GSL-SE (not a gsl) diff should fit a MK3 UK car
there is some talk of fitting mx5 torsen units into the carrier of the 1st gen but I haven\'t seen anyone who\'s actually done it (probably because you can get hold of gsl-se bits in the states)
Hey Don, if you go to the ausrotary website and look in the tech reference section then a friend of mine has written a whole stack of info on mazda diffs, interchangability, etc.
Cheers, I\'ll give it a look.
Still none the wiser. Will keep looking (& ask Tim @ RX Motors)
The LSD for the 1st gens were only sold on production models in the states.
They are not as tight as race versions.
Regards
Carl
Found this sliper on ebay, dunno if the link will work.
I am IT dunce

Would it fit in a UK 1st gen axel?
Don,
Link works OK. There have been a couple of write ups on this from the US with mixed views (not sure if the links below will work).

I am also after a LSD for a Gen 1 but dont really want to buy one second hand (especially if it is being shipped from the US). I have checked a couple of companies in the UK but no joy yet. They have both suggested that I get one from the US or Japan.
Only company that I know does a new LSD for the Gen 1 is Mazdatrix.
http://www.mazdatrix.com/g8.htm
Not cheap though. Let me know if you have any luck finding one.
Cheers for the info dude. Nice to know im not the only one scrabbling around for rareties.
Mazdatrix only sell the race LSD, for which they dont list a price.
Not really liking what they say about iteither:
84-85 12A and 13B
(Race-see note) 13498
Note: The RACE units have a much steeper lock-up ramp than the stock units, which makes them great for racing, but not very usable for street driving. All of the LSD units listed are of the clutch plate type, which work much better than the viscous type used on all 89-92.
Don,
I think the race diff is now out of stock but if you look further down the page they do have a \'RX-7 TORQUE SENSING LIMITED SLIP ("TORSEN LSD")\'.
It is listed for a 84-92 Non-turbo so it should fit the Gen 1 Series 3 - List price $908 plus shipping plus tax duties. They are supposed to be good diffs but dont know anyone first hand who has bought one.
You could just buy a good TII for that money with its own LSD.
Might just do that, at least it\'d have power steering & aircon!
Yuk!!! i hate power steering AND aircon!and i\'ve been after an lsd for years.....guess a gsle-se is the best option....i very much doubt you\'re going to find one on a JDM 12at!
Why would anyone hate aircon? You enjoy sweating?
I\'m fine with non powered steering IF its rack & pinion. But the backwards vintage style worm & peg box is just vague low geared wobbly SH*TE & we all know it. That\'s why only die hards drive these silly things.
no,mate,i open the window,so my dump valve and exhaust is even louder! :D i\'ve always hated power steering, feels like i\'m not in control, fully.
it seems like a lot of car manufatures in the 80\'s build mildly high performance RWD cars and seem to forget out a LSD?
did the Elford Turbo come with a LSD Standard?
with the sort of power levels 80\'s rwd cars kicked out as standard you didn\'t really need a LSD, its a nice to have and not a necessity.
No, the Elford turbo\'s were reworked standard cars and didn\'t come with a limited slip diff.
i think toyota had the right idea though by putting a LSD in the RWD corolla coupe, that definatly made a £500 car a £4000 car, the Supra also got one, Nissan seem to be tight in the LSD department, none of there cars got a LSD only JDM variants got it untill mid 90\'s and then they started putting them in.
im sure though somehow a latter rx7 lsd diff could be transplanted in the gen 1 but somethings telling me that its not as easy as that
Hi all
I have an LSD unit from a 1985 GSL SE US model. It will fit straight into any series 3 axel.
It has new clutch packs and is in very good condition. It is complete in its housing so it will just bolt to your prop and slide into your axel, no seals to mess about with.
It stands me in over 350 quid so i would like that back. Anyone want to make me an offer over that. It will also fit an EGI series 4 2nd gen.
Regards
Tony
I also have a brand new set of 4 tokiko shocks for a first gen still boxed and un opened. 200 quid anyone?

are they Illuminas?Could do with some new ones even if they\'re not.
Hi,
not sure, where would it say, they are in my garage, i will have a look.
the model numbers are HE2317 and HZ1069, it says on the box Performance gas shock, I havent opened them yet so it may say more on the instructions enclosed.
Hi antnicuk, I was just wondering about something? i thought that the series 4 second gen cars had an independant rear end so would that mean it wouldnt fit. Unless the egi\'s had a solid rear axel? Any help would be great. Thanks, michael.
The did have an independant rear end but the diff is the same, the splines are the same, Tim\'s LSD came from a US model series 4. Instead of the splines going straight to the drive shafts the had UV joints attached for the IRS.
Hope this helps
regards
Tony
Hey thanks for that. I wouild love to see some photos of a rear end of a series 4 diff because I always thought that they were not interchangable. Nice one, appreciate your help. I dont get to see many cars or workshops up my way!
cheers,michael.
The turbo\'s are different. The EGI 2nd gen has a gearbox very similar to the 1st gen also. They changed it all when they turbo\'d it. The back end of the TII is quite different to the EGI.
Actually now I think of it, the series 4 diff must sot inside a carrier unit, or a cradle of sorts to support it. Whereas the 1st gen series 3 diffs bolt into the diff housing. Do you mean that the clutch pack and gears etc are bolted into the earlier diff carier?
Sorry for the questions, I am not trying to scupper your sale here. just genuinely interested.
cheers, michael.
The unit i have has the whole front end of the diff with all cogs and clutches in place, this just slides into the rear of the diff housing (which on the 1st gen is incorporated in the beam axel) and bolts up.
Hopefully going into my car next week!!
Let me know what you think when you see it Tony, I haven\'t seen it since november!
I wonder what kind of 1/4 times I\'ll get now that I got a slipper?
Any gueses gentlemen?
Hey Don, well without fully knowing how much boost and what sized slicks you might be running:D I will be the first to have a wild stab in the dark and guess at a 12.9 at roughly.......ummmmm....109mph. Is there a prise for the person who guesses closest to the mark?:rollin
maybe knock half a second off..?
C\'mon people, there have been alot of us following closely the story of Dons car. Maybe the person who gets the closest to the time gets to be taken for a drive by the man himself!
Rotorhead666 so you reckon it will pull a 12.4? Anyone else?
:)
I havn\'t a clue .... I think I guessed at a 13.somthing last time so I\'ll stick by that with a 13.5 estimate
Tim ran a 13.2 in an almost standard 12at....but we all know how he drives!
It will be interesting to find out. Hope the gearbox is up to it.
Don\'t know what boost its running, but it does have water inj.
I may fit an intercooler too. Just need rack & pinion steering & its done (apart from the paint).
13 seconds is a fast car. I reckon 13.4ish, but who knows...

yes its much easier to make a standard engine go quickly if you know where your next rebuild is coming from :D
Yes, a 13 sec 1/4 is still a very quick car ... a standard 3rd gen is in the 14\'s and in standard form a 1st gen is probably in the 17\'s at best so 13 is a massive jump forward in performance.
Yes, a good 1/4 time is not that important to me, not to the extent of prematurely knackering my new engine.
