Title: Cooling System Capacity?
Post by: scoobster on December 18, 2004, 10:55:31 PM
Hi Guy\'s

I am going to flush and refill the cooling system on my FD tomorrow but can someone tell me what the capacity of the cooling system is?

Don\'t want to drain it just to find out i haven\'t got enough antifreeze to refill it:(

Also what\'s the best % of antifreeze to water? or should i just fill the whole system with antifreeze?

:cheers

Hi Mate,
there are a lot of threads (especially recently) about the cooling system - filling/problems/what to put in, etc etc.
Try entering "coolant" under search.

Hope this helps

p.s. I think the capacity is 6.6 litres

Cheers Mate,

So it looks like a 50/50 water/antifreeze mix

Just one more question is the FD thermostat the same as any other models in the mazda range? it\'s just i know that if i ask for an RX7 thermostat i will get blank looks if you know what i mean and if they can find the right one they will just double the price and add a bit:eek:

50/50 mix, add a little water wetter if you can.
Expect to spend a few hours filling and burping though ;)

why do you need a new thermostat?

Theres no real reason why i was going to change the thermostat i just thought that while i was draining and flushing the system that i would change it as i know that these motors need the cooling system to be spot on

alternative is to plumb a water temp gauge into the cooling system pre-rad.

Every time I start the car I watch the PFC temp rise to 83, then the stat opens and I watch the defi rise as the water circulates.

If that ever changes, I\'ll do the stat. :cool
