my fuel gauge is not working i was wondering if there is a fuse for it or not can anyone help is to how i can fix this problem.1gen
there isn\'t a fuse in the signal line but there will be a fuse that feeds the instruments. as you havn\'t said anything else isn\'t working I\'d guess that its not a fuse.
Can only really be one of three things
a. a fault at the gauge
b. a fault at the sender
c. a fault in the connection between the two (hardest to find)
oorrrrrrr mystery option no.4 you have no petrol ;)
seriously though, i\'d start by checking the gauge as its the easiest to get to and then work your way through all the parts logically. Not sure how the fuel gauge works but I\'d guess that earthing the signal wire via a resistance would give a reading. use a test bulb or somthing, I\'d be wary of just earthing it out as you may blow somthing. But best check the manual first to see how the gauge works.
I dont think the fuel guage is fused separately but worth checking your manual.
First check for petrol - guage does not always register if it is low.
If you are getting no reading check the connection to the fuel tank sender (It corrodes easily).
Take the passenger side rear wheel off and remove the splash shield from the wheel arch.
You should be able to see the sender unit and be able to check the connections.
If the connection is OK try earthing the sender - this should give you a reading on the guage if the guage is OK.
If the guage is OK then your sender unit probably needs replaced (chances are the screws holding this in are corroded and you will have to drop the tank to get the sender out).
