Hi
After about only a month of ownership my new FD decided to go tree felling. It\'s mostly heavy panel damage but about half the panels are dented so I\'m expecting a write off. Has anyone written one off recently, or does anyone know a rough idea of what value the insurance company will put on mine? I can\'t seem to get a value anywhere. It\'s a \'93 Type R and ran 100% spot on...so the engines got to be worth a few quid.
Any advice appreciated...cheers
sorry to hear about it matey
speak to wiggy - he wrote his off last month
( seems to be a bad quarter for rx\'s at the mo )
Try and keep away from the insurance man if you can! You\'ll get stuffed for insurance for the next 5 years.
If its really just panel damage then don\'t tell them.
Adam from this site had a rear bumper for sale for £30 (really cheep) you could get a front bumper from between £100-150. Not sure about other panels but it might be a lot cheeper than you thought if it really is just cosmetic damage.
Thats my advice. I fI eve do the same sort of thing I know I will buy the pannels myself and use it as an reason to repaint the whole car.
Try G11ary (Rotarytarts.com) he has a bumper and spoiler on there for sale. There are other companies like RX:Motors who have a lot of 2nd hand parts.
If it is panel damage, drop me a PM. I expect to have a couple of big bits coming off my car (all excellent condition) in the coming months.
i\'d be surprised if every panel but nothing else was damaged mind i mean if u fook a standard headlight up yer looking at £800 theoretically.... & to no kill sumin suspension etc related is guna be lucky but if you have ah balls im ghetting depressed hope it is just a fender bender as value of that year car is guna mean owt more than a few k repair bill is guna be in right off territory. Hope you manage to escape not too out of pocket either way but i get the feeling youll need luck (http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/edoom/sad2.gif)

Join the club, I have just done mine (last sunday) gutting thing was that i was just following traffic and the back end broke out, sending me spinning (360) into a ditch then flipped it (didn\'t touch the roof) . Luckly no one else was involved or hurt.
Got quotes from local company 5k and nemesis 3k (labor is £1800), a insurance assor will be looking at it tuesday (needless to say he wont be leaving the house till he agrees its not a right off :-) )
Drop me a PM and i\'ll send you one of my quotes will give you a idea of prices for parts and repair.
Cheers for the advice guys....
Unfortunately I\'ve got no choice but to go through the insurance. I know that\'ll mean I probably wont be able to afford to insure one again but not alot I can do about it now. I\'m sure they\'ll write it off, but how do you think they value it? Don\'t want to loose too much...
If it\'d only been a few panels I would have gone down the route of fixing it myself, I just haven\'t got the cash to do the amount of work it needs. I slid diagonally off the road, although I flattened all the trees, there were quite a few and the car got damaged at the front and all down the NS, with a few dents on the roof from debris. Rear quarter is well flattened (bigger tree!).....
Possible plan....what do you think?
If they write it off, I could buy it back. This would leave me with some cash. I\'m thinking there must be a few engine less FD\'s out there for not much money....If I could do this cheaply enough I might have cash left to pay for insurance.....
I can put you in touch with a car dealer in south wales has two scrappers. Between them you might get most of the parts. They are both missing the engine, but both have gearbox. I\'ve had a few bits off one of them but although badley smashed up you might get most of the panels between the two. He was willing to sell me them for £500 the pair, so get back if you want his number.
