Title: REDOM Type-B ECU any good?
Post by: Eclipse2RexRII on December 13, 2004, 07:17:29 PM
Hi.

I have been informed I need an ECU upgrade, as I have a full Titanium exhaust system and now HKS induction and suffering from possible detonation

I keep hearing about the Apexi Power FC but feel they are way to expensive especially as they also need a few hundred quids worth of setting up

However, I have been offered this below from one of my Japanese contacts at a great price

Amemiya TYPE-B REDOM (ROM tuned) (Part EL-R25) ECU for the 8-bit (93-95) Third Generation RX-7 with the 13B-REW engine

But I wonder if they are any good and easy tunable here in the UK.

I\'m told this one is already tuned for my set up.

Any advise would be good.

Shane

They are not reprogrammable in the UK.

Setup up for \'your mods\' is really a VERY bold statement as all exhausts flow different amounts and no cars setup and fuel requirements will ever be exactly the same. Are u feeling lucky?

Bare in mind it will have been mapped on Jap fuel which depending on how much you read and believe may cause a problem subsequently running on our pump gas :(

Okay, thanks for your input, looks like I\'m gunna have to go with the expensive Power FC option.

I am begining to wonder if buying my 7 was a good idea now lol!! should have kept the faithful Mitsubishi Eclipse, major mods and 30,000 miles in 1 1/2 years with no problems at all.

My last RX7 I owned was 4 years ago, when they were pretty rare but no where near as expensive to get mods for, it seems there popularity now is there own worse enemy.

You reckon? The Power FC and Commander sets are like half the cost they were a year or two back...
