Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone knows what seal size 12a engines have? I am pretty sure it is 3mm standard, but is that just the early twin dizzy motors(that also had carbon instead of steel)?
Also besides Dowling what are guys doing to keep 12a\'s together whilst suffering more than 15pounds boost?
As I am wanting to put a 12a into my car and am definately going to turbo it to an inch of its life I thought I would throw up these questions for others to ponder.
Also what boost did the elford turbos run from factory?
cheers, michael.
Elford turbos ran 6psi boost.The 12A has 3mm steel seals.My 12A has had 1.8 bar boost,26 psi,engine is not dowelled,just bolted together!
The twindizzy 12a\'s had 6mm carbon apex seals. All of the single dizzy engines have 3mm apex seals.
How many miles between rebuilds Tim?
Regards
Carl
Cool, good start guys. It does seem like there is alot of info on 13bees around on this forum, and I know I could just(and have done) gone over to the ausrotary site but since I live and breathe in the sunny UK nowadays I htought the discussion better over here.
So onto other questions. Has anyone seen or heard of or even built a 12a turbo block with a more agressive port? Say something like a bridgeport or even a pp?
I can vaguely remember when heaps of people about 10years ago said that you couldnt turbocharge a pp due to excessive overlap.
One more thing, forgot to ask. Can the 12a twin dizzy 6mm seals take being turbocharged? I had always been told no as they are weeker(obviously) than steel.
Must admit all the twindizzy engines I have taken apart all had good housing due to the carbon seals.
Thanks again. Yours truly, annoying aussie.
OK, looks like not too much interest in this thread. I wasnt after a whole stack of tuners to divulge secret engine building methods just trying to spark a bit of interest in some more of the radical build ups and the upper end og the power scale.
cheers all for reading it though and those that have contacted me about it.
michael.
