Title: Turbo II Conv. Rebuild
Post by: Wav on December 12, 2004, 08:19:17 PM
Hey Guys,

I went over to help Ali from Derby (MRC forum user) remove his engine from his nice red Turbo II convertible this weekend. He should be rebuilding it over crimbo and will hopefully be ready early next year. Engine removal was pretty straight forward apart from having to sort out the alarm wires from the ecu wires and having to prize the engine from the gearbox as the box mount was so worn that the whole gearbox moved with the engine when we tried to shake it loose

Here are a few pics from today.

>Health and safety mode ON<

I Didnt see any axel stands or other supports in that first pic\'.....  You didn\'t just use the jack did you?  Very easy way of getting yourself killed.

Yes the car is supported by thin air and good will:rolleyes:

Come on guys you should know me better than that by now, and if that\'s how I worked then surely I\'d already be dead:( ;) It had 2 great big phat axle stands under the chassis struts! And a trolley jack supporting the gearbox.

Yep he bought the car with a blown engine,

Paul:)

I definately think that fd\'s look awesome with out the boot spoiler. Sorry, just another random opinion from the back of the room.
Are you going to do the rebuild yourself?

Yes yes you are very right in my opinion (obviously), just don\'t ask Gurj\'s opinion ;) And your thoughts do matter because you\'re right :D

Yep Ali will be rebuilding the engine himself, I will probably go round to see him strip it though, always interested in what\'s gone pop:D and will give him a hand if required. Check out the sticky rebuild take 1 thread I did last summer if you haven\'t already seen it.

And remember you are right!,

Paul;)

Cheers for the vote of confidence on being right. Not too often that happens:rollin
I have already seen the rebuild thread you did. Very cool to see your efforts rewarded with a smooth running.

Love the wheels on the t2, the whole car looks in great condition. Which kit are you using to rebuild ?

Yep the car is in very good condition just needs a new hood. He imported the wheels in from the US, they are 18\'s as well:eek: but fit fine and look sweeeeeeeeeet:bandit ;)

Think Ali will be ordered the rotary aviation master rebuild kit or similar from the US in the next few weeks.

Cheers for the interest,

Paul:)
