Title: My workshop
Post by: rotary_rogers on December 09, 2004, 01:41:39 AM
Im just in the first stages of building my own workshop in my back garden, it will only be a shed but hey im getting a 13b N/a on a test rig so will be open to any ideas for testing it. cant wait really. also what is actually needed for the triple rotar conversion. i know the extra rotar chamber and mid section are needed but are there any pre made kits with extended crank shafts and inlet/exhaust  manifolds. any info would be great.

cheers.

louis.

You will need a different exccentric shaft for a start, and very deep pockets... Buy a second hand 20B from a Cosmo or something, I would\'nt try to build my own from scratch.

Hurley Motor Engineering can build triple rotor engines, give them a try for the bits you need.

As can the other engine builders :)

Oh okay :) Hurley was the first to develop the joining crank to add additional rotors and I didn\'t realise anyone else was doing it.

Mazda,Mercedes,Curtiss wright all made multi rotor engines in the 1960\'s,of the 3 and 4 rotor varieties,Long before other companies even thought of it.

Hi guys forgive me if this is too much of a thread hijack. But what ultraman-cosmo was talking about a kit that allowed you to make a 3 rotor from your already existing 2 rotor. Am i right?(asking not telling by the way.never heard of this before.)
Do they do kits for the 12a as well? Not in the market for one but finding it very interesting.
 thanks, michael.

Answer on both counts is yes,but they are not cheap as you have to make alot of parts your self to make them work and they are not any where near as easy to assemble as a 2 rotor engine.Manifolds have to be custom made as there is nothing readily available.

Yes, thanks Travellin Bob, that\'s exactly what I was saying!

I know, I\'ve been into rotaries since the age of fifteen so I do have some limited  knowledge on the subject:confused:

I would like to stand corrected, I have heard of these but it was years ago, an aussie friend just reminded me!
  Does anyone have any photos?

Can the extra rotar be used in a stand alone situation. So that you could basivally have a single rotar engine?

p.s. ultraman, you have a pm.

Just to put it all into perspective...Mazda engineers were the first to develop the joining eccentric shaft. I don`t remember off hand the dates or the engineer, but will be happy to post for who may be interested.

I\'m sure they were, I was thinking more along the lines of a specialist making this modification available to the rotary enthusiast rather than the developements of a major motor manufacturer.
