Right, Im about to place an order for the following list of parts:
HKS Full Turbo Upgrade - MAZDA (T04E w/ Racing Wastegate)
APEX INTERCOOLER KIT (for RX-6 Single Turbo Kit)
GREDDY BOV for Mazda RX-7
HKS TYPE-1 Turbo Timer
APEX POWER FC ENGINE MANAGEMENT 93+ RX7, with FC Commander
Will these parts go together ok? and any1 care to estimate what BHP I should be gettin about?? (other mod is Blitz EVC, all ready on the car).
cheers all.........
You may need to improve fueling.
Uprated pump / injectors.
You can get 350 from stock turbos with similar mods so I would hope you could get 400 (at fly) with single turbo.
I won\'t need new injectors, and the Power FC will do the fueling. (I think)
The main thing was the intercooler with the HKS Single Turbo conversion, am hoping that they will be ok together.
Im no expert but i would say you will need new secondary injectors...
good luck with it.
If you have stock injectors you won\'t be able to get big power out of the car unless you upgrade them. The PFC will control the fueling but if you have the stock 550cc injectors and fuel pump then the PFC can only push as much fuel as the fuel system will allow and 550s won\'t allow enough to rund that setup at a high boost.
ok, so I could run on the current injectors 4 a bit at about 400BHP, then replace them with new pump aswell.
What are good parts to use?? where could I get them??
Im wantin a 1/4 mile time in the 11\'s out of the car. I last got 13.68
At least 1300CC secondaries matey;)
Yeah, but dont go anywhere near full throttle until you have done the injectors and pump or you will be to lean, i certainly wouldnt try and beat your current best time until you have, believe me, i learnt the hard way at rotorstock last year going up the strip. quite a few thousand pounds later im now ready to go up the strip again..
I got my injectors and pump from WGT, there are other places, do a search and you should find loads.
If I replace the secondary injectors, do I have to do the primary ones aswell??
I only replaced my secondaries when i did my conversion. I have 1300 secondaries, and still have 550 primaries, i would give one of the tuners a ring for advice, Pip at WGT is a very friendly helpfull guy, give him a ring... the man knows what he is talking about.
Cheers
Donato
The primary injectors are not as important but if you wanna run 11\'s then possibly 850 as primary and 1300 as secondary if in the future you wanna run even quicker then by-pass the 1300\'s now and get 1600cc injectors as secondaries. :)
Hello mate...
Right.. i have just fitted a to4E. It comes with all the pipe work to fit to a standard intercooler. I have a feeling these intercooler kits that are designed for single turbo\'s don\'t come with a pipe to the turbo, you are left to fabricate your own......so i ordered a greddy intercooler kit for standard turbo\'s,.... seems a long way round to the turbo but was told by a few tuners that it won\'t make that much of a difference. See pic below.
No point cutting corners mate.... i would fit 1300 secondary plus an uprated fuel pump.

Adam
well, the goal is 600BHP in this car:
doubt you will get 600 then mate from a to4e.... be lucky to get 450 to be honest.
adam
and I don\'t wanna blow it up (or kill myself) in doin so.
I think I\'ll look at prices and go 4 the sec. 1300cc injectors, and a fuel pump (what press will I need?)
Nice, did you buy that in Edinburgh by any chance?
:)
You wont get 600hp from that turbo, take a look at T88 or T51R KAI they are big enough, also you will have to look at porting in order to meet 600hp, bridge port most likely;) and indeed 1600cc secondaries!!!
BTW i nealr bought that rx you have last year!!! JVS yes??
Gurj:wave
Yep, then shipped it to the sunny Isle of man.
Im looking 4 600BHP in the end, with the T04e I was hopin 4 around 500 at the fly (with the other mods).
I only have a £6000 budget (cost me a Skyline) so I need to do it right.
I have seen this car in the metal and its nice! Its got a massive set of brakes on it, so you should be able to stop it once you have put all that power through it!!
Good luck with the project mate.
You wanna talk 600hp then i dont think £6k will be enough???
For serious power mods talk to these guys //www.dragonperformance.co.uk Ross runs highly tuned rx7\'s and will know what you exactly need ok :)
Gurj:wave
Endless 8-potts (there HUGE!!!)
One additional thing to note - you may get close to 500bhp (flywheel) but you\'ll be very close to the limits of the standard ports in the engine.
To go for an eventual goal of 600bhp you reall need very large porting done. I\'m not sure that I\'ve seen or heard of any cars running even into mid 400bhp at the wheels withough porting.
Hopefully Carl (Hayward Rotary) will see this thread and add some expert advice though.
Iain
Why are you aiming that high !!
To achieve 600 you would also need clutch, gearbox, maybe LSD, serious rubber on wheels - new wheels to take serious rubber.
Also with a bridge port/clutch the car would be crap to drive around town. Also with big turbos and long/big intercoolers the lag would be bad too.
400 in a rx7 is more than adequate and would beat most things on road (and would still be a pleasure to drive.)
about 400-450 would be ok 4 now, but Im wantin to make sure the main parts are ready to take about 600 in the future...

I recently had the pleasure of driving a single turbo\'d car with what is described as \'monster\' porting and a moderate turbo. In heavy traffic it was not fun!!! I didn\'t get chance to push it at all (traffic and fear of breaking something!!) but this car is going to be somewhere over 500 at the wheels when it\'s new turbo goes on.
When I got back in mine it was quite a relief and made me realise that I\'m going to need two of these damn things at some point - one to keep twin and easy and one for track abuse!
healthy mods to get to 400 fly would be good to try befor going further and obviously depends on what you\'re going to use it for!!!
whats the deal with adding an extra set of injectors rather than upgrading the secondaries?? Is this better/easier?? I take it a PowerFC would be able to control 3 sets of injectors or is it something that is not done very much?
Thanks
Ryan
I dont know which to change, and whats the diff. between pri. and sec. ones???
initially as everyone has suggested, go for the Secondaries. Primaries are as the name suggests the main injectors which are always working on & off boost, the secondaries kick in when the engine requires more fueling (i.e. under boost). If you run massive primaries and secondaries you may find the engine doesn\'t run too well off boost as potentially it would run way too rich, although if the PFC is mapped correctly it should be able to reduce/increase the injector duty in line with the engine requirements. I\'m sure if I\'ve missed anything someone else will be able to fill in the blanks.
The single turbo which I have has additional injectors as opposed to replacing.
With a t04e; its not really a huge turbo. WIth a substantial porting, I think you should see around 400 at the fly at 1.1. What size housing is it, .6?
If you really want big power then you need to go for something the sort of T51 spl BB, or T88 33D etc or two gt35\'s would see you right but that one would be best used on a 20b.
There\'s a balance to be reached with injectors:
Stock primary injectors are 500\'s (I think), secondaries are 850s.
If you runs them too small you may end up running them at 95%+ for periods of time. This can cause them to fail (dead engine) or you may hit their limit (dead engine).
If you whack huge injectors in both primary and secondary you may only ever get them running at 50% of capacity. The fuel won\'t atomise too well and performance will suffer. You\'ll end up running righ on the primaries.
Depending on what power level you\'re shooting for you usually upgrade the secondaries and leave the primaries as they are. So replace the 850s (secondary injectors) with 1200s, 1300s or 1600s. You\'d only need to up the primaries if you were running massive power or having problems with fuelling.
Keeping the 500s in place will keep driveability and some notion of economy!
As far as I\'m aware the Apexi can only control the primary and secondary injectors and doesn\'t have map options for a thirs pair.
Iain
PS. If you\'re seriously thinking of doing this level of mods to a car talk to your favourite tuner and spend some time working out with them where you want to get to, what order things will be done in and your budget!
Right, I spoke to Dragon Performance, and Rotary Xecret 7 in the states, letting them know of the advice I was gettin here and this is what we came up with:
GREDDY BOV
RC ENGINEERING 1300CC Ported Injectors (Sec.)
Holley / Walboro - In-Tank Fuel Pump Forced Induction 255LPH
APEX POWER FC ENGINE MANAGEMENT
HKS TYPE-1 Turbo Timer
HKS TO4E Kit with Front Mount Intercooler and Hard Pipe Kit
They Guess that with the Blitz EVC on the car all ready, she should have around 450-475BHP at the fly (if dyno\'d correctly).
All that will cost me £3472.52 + labor (so, within my budget). Not a bad power gain if I do say so myself.... :D :D :D
ROUGHLY 400 at the wheels with a t04e and a stock motor...? Best take it to the US for the dyno runs to avoid disappointment :)
I\'d ask for a guarantee with that :D
I would agree with Rich on this. More like 350-370 at the wheels.
For some reason most of the figures from rolling roads in the US are higher than UK rollers. This is not even car specific, they just seem to read higher.

Oh, ok, well its a good start. I guess that with these upgrades I could then add a bigger single turbo on its own in say 6 months or so, with a remap and I should be ok??
Also, the motor has been rebuilt with stronger seals, and been ported, so will that make much diff???
Has it been ported recently because it wasn\'t when I drove it ?
Why waste your money buying a to4e turbo upgrade it again in 6 months you would be better off buying the right size turbo in the first place. A to4r with .96 a/r would work well. You would be better off with 1600cc injectors and stock primaries for what you want but to each their own I guess.
rgds
Yep, the work was done only a few weeks ago, the engine that was in it blew the water seals, so I did a trade for another engine that was done to my spec (ported ready for a single turbo).
If I had the money I would go 4 the bigger turbo, but Im looking at getting the T04e with the intercooler and all pipes needed 4 £1500 second hand (turbo has just been rebuilt).
