Just bought this at auction in japan, been looking for one for a little while now. Used to drive supras but had enough of driving a "sports" car that weighs more than my land rover!!
Its a 94 (no sva test needed!) Type R2 with 78,000Kms (ive saved enough money to get the engine re-built when it arrives)
cost me £3000 in japan then another £1500 to get it here, pay vat & duty!
Met a nice chap ay Shy auto in northfleet a couple of days ago and he made my mind up on buying the RX7, very useful to have a specialist just down the road!
and the back
Well done mate, looks lovely. :D
Wow, does look a lovely example :D
Who did you use to bid?
I used a company called Carex Japan (//www.carex-japan.com), ive used them a couple of times before, very reliable & honest.
Does anyone know what the spec is of the Type R2?
Looks nice matey well done:)
Bargain. Looks good matey, especially the rims. Don\'t forget to change the crap jap rubber.
Rich :)

Yeah they seem to like snow tyres for some reason! my evo had a set on when i got it, strange!
Wow!!! Lovely and a complete bargain!! Just to clarify, was the £1500 including vat/duty etc etc?? If not, can i be nosy and ask roughly how much it would cost??
R2 spec is pretty good mate! The 2 designates the fact it\'s a strict 2-seater (as opposed to the majority of FDs that are 2+2), yours has 2 storage bins instead of the rear bench. Power wise a standard one puts out 265bhp, has twin oil coolers and strut braces front and rear. I think they also tweaked the suspension slightly and revised some interior bits and pieces.
Anyway, bet you can\'t wait, and nice choice! Cheers for the Supra joke to, cheered up my day at work!! :rollin

Yeah thats everything:
Rx7 £3000 including agents fees & auction fees
Shipping to uk (£400) £3400
10% Duty (£340) £3740
17.5% Vat (£654.50) £4394.50
Customs agents fee (£60) £4454.50
Then youve got to add the fog light and convert the speedo to mph which if you do yourself shouldnt cost more than £100, £30 for the MOT & £39 to register it with the DVLA.
I see. Thanks very much for the info buddy. Just seemed too good to be true!
So when are you expecting delivery? Few months? Boy are they gonna drag!! :p
Yeah i cant wait, should get it at the end of January hopefully but i wouldnt use it much at this time of year anyway, at least thats what ive convinced myself anyway!
It\'ll be intersting to see if i can register it as a 1308cc because the jap registration docs will show 1308cc which will have been specified by mazda so i cant see how they could argue it!
My japanese paperwork said 1308 and now its registered the same here so you might be ok, unless they have tightened control????
Hmmm several guys here had a bit of a nightmare with tax and insurance, this country seems convinced it\'s a 2.6!! I believe if you obtain proof from a recognised garage that it\'s actual displacement is 2x656cc you\'re ok!!
BTW, are they mazdaspeed MS-01 alloys you have there? :)

Its being shipped by YA Logistics and probably to southampton unless it stops at tilbury. It takes a while for the car to be deregistered and to clear customs in japan so sometimes it can take months to get here! Hope you get yours soon, as for the rims ive got no idea what theyre worth but they look expensive!
Mine probably wont be here until feb now but its worth the wait.
mine will be on the same ship, my car is in nagoya and hopefully looking at the site for previous departure dates, it should be scheduled anytime soon. it will be coming on Vessel-143. this is the site for dates
http://www.yuwaship.co.jp/schedule/euro.html
i will be picking mine up fro liverpool. have heard that at southampton there were security problems and things were going missing out of cars, so i didnt really want it delivered there, otherwise i would have had my car by now...the wait is killing me though
i will try gettin pics of mine up, its got a single turbo conversion, intercooler, hosing/pipes, blowoff valve, filter, exhaust, suspension, wheels, full re-amemiya kit with vented bonnet and non-flip up lights, roll cage, bucket seat, extra guages, uprated ecu with 2 step button and its just had a full respray...cant think of anything else.. :D
its the one in my avatar
<<<<
That looks sweet, i love the headlights, ive got to get some of those, the pop up one look a bit dated now imo. How much did the car cost you if you dont mind me asking? I had to go for a standard one because i cant afford to insure anything else!
The 143 should be loading in the next couple of days apparently & should arrive in liverpool mid january.
Ive heard bad things about southampton but im going to pick mine up the same day as it clears customs so hopefully no one will have a chance to pinch anything!
The pop up lights look nice aswell, but imo these lights look better. havent finalised cost for it yet, still rising as we speak..lol, but lets just say im getting it cheap :p
cant wait for it to arrive, so they better start loading that ship quickly, but still havent heard from my connect in japan about shipping date or anything.
hope your car comes over ok, as i would hate it if anything went missing...the last car i imported was delievered to newcastle which imo is a good port, but YA dont go to newcastle :(
pick yours up form liverpool so i can see it aswell :D
Good news, its being loaded up on the Asian Legend ship on the 22nd so i should get it at the end of Jan! I cant wait!
well, i havent heard anything of mine being loaded yet, sent an e-mail to the shipping company but havent haerd anything. i will send an e-mail to my connect and see what is happening...
bet you cant wait...i check the shipping site 3 times a day...:D
have a look at this link: http://www.yalogistics.co.uk/site_documents/YA_Schedule.doc
its updated with the shipping schedule but it doesnt appear to be loading in nagoya. mines in osaka.
Damn, my car is in nagoya and i very much doubt it would be possible to get it on that ship now as not much time is left. thats really left me :reallymad
that means i will have to wiat for another month, until the next ship leaves on 19th january and will get teh car at teh end of February...that means it will be a total of 5 months wait
5 Months thats crazy! i bought mine 10 days ago and it should be on the ship in a couple of days! That ship doesnt appear to go to liverpool either, i cant believe its taken so long, who are you using in japan?
well, when i bought the car the ship was due to leave in 2 days, and i couldnt transfer funds quickly enough, also the car couldnt be loaded up onto the ship (V-141). so i just wiated for the next ship.
V-142 was only going to dublin and southampton and due to the security problems i heard about the southampton port i decided to wait for the next ship coming to liverpool and not risk it.
V-143 is also going to dublin and then southampton, so my connect was waiting for the january ship as i had told him i dont want the car to be shipped via southampton port, wi sh i had now :(
so now i must wait a little longer. at least when it arrives end of feb the roads will be a little dryer :)
make sure you get pics of yours up when it arrives, bet you cant wait now :D
Nagoya is jam packed with new cars waiting to be shipped out all over.
You would be better off transporting it to Osaka Sakai port.
You should have shipped it to Southampton port and then collected the car the very same day, hence allowing for no contact from others to your car???:)
Too late now i guess, plus you would have to get a day off work to get down there depending on what day it would be landing:(
it is too late now :(
i will just have to wait and lets just hope it pays off, well here is a pic that i have to keep looking at and dreaming

This shipping job is a nightmare..... i have had a shogun sat at nagoya for a while now...i bought the car a while bacK!!!...althou i have been told i can get it to newcastle from nagoya next week...so if ya quick mate perhaps you mithgt catch that 1???
Matt....
what shipping company is that with???
Liverpool.....worse than Southampton which is why they have the old bill floating around at auction times. The auctions there handle far more cash than Southampton where they limit the amount of cash you can pay for a car. Too many dodgy people in Liverpool and too many armed raids!

It would seem then that the car yards at Southampton too should be guarded by the old bill. As Southampton probably handles more cars than any other ports and the amount of damage to cars by anyone able to enter the yards is beyond belief.
I\'ve spoken to the old bill about this several times. It seems that the main problem is that the police are not aware of anything major as people don\'t report theft of parts to them. There\'s no point in people moaning that their CD changer has been nicked, or their wheels have been nicked if they don\'t make a report to the police. A fuss needs to be made and it seems the only place a fuss is made is on the forums which is pretty typical.
Everything is assessed on risks and costs. If the old bill are only aware of £1000 of stuff going missing each month then they are not going to supply any police presence as there\'s clearly only a petty crime problem and no major gang operation. If however they are under the impression that £10000 of stuff is going each which then they would be more interested. It\'s like with the Liverpool auctions. If they get subjected to an armed raid then hundreds of thousands of pounds of cash is going to go walkies which is obviously pretty major compared to a £1000 set of 10 year old wheels! I mentioned to the police that there had been talk down there of vehicles being primed as they are coming off the boats. It\'s only if they have enough reports that they can build up a pattern of who is around at the time stuff is going walkies.
The worst times are after the auctions when the theiving gits have had a chance to have a nose around. The best thing to do is to make sure vehicles are customs cleared before they come off the boat and collect within 24 hours of the boat arriving. The Yuwa compound is pretty safe though and I\'ve had motors sitting in there for quite a while and not worried about them.
Babz_Audio, is your contact well known to you and trustworthy?
petermillis ... what port are you referring to when you say that you have cars sitting in the compunds for a while?
my contact is very trustworthy, he was just following my instructions really, as i told him that i do not want the car going to southampton port, even though he did say it would be a faster process, i was thinking the most i would wait would be 3 months...:(
its all very good worrying about the security in the uk but do you know how secure the storage is in Japan as it has sat there for a couple of months?
Storage in Japan is utmost secure. My car was there for 10 months as I had no need for it arrive in the UK. The car was fully intact when it got here.
Make one wonder thou on the overall security in Japan. Most cars, if not all come with no alarm systems and most come with no locking wheel nuts on alloys either.
Babz, I\'ve had then sitting at Southampton for a fair time with no problems. The only reason I asked about your contact in Japan is that he seems to have taken an excessively long time securing shipping space. Wonder if it might be worth getting someone else to finish the job.
the car is actually sat at his home, he had it fully resprayed while waiting for the ship to liverpool, the past 2 months the ship has only come to southampton...it will probably be better gettin it later so that the roads are in better condition but i just want it sat in my garage :p
will give me time to get a power fc and get a heater in the garage, wouldnt want it getting a cold ... :D
how can you speed up the customs clearance process? last time i had to wait for them to inform me of the car coming over and then after that i transfered the money which took 4 days so the car was sat there for over a week as HMC were taken the piss clearing it...
some of you have mentioned pricking the car up the day after delivery
all of this advice and information is really appreciated, i am sure i will be able to thank you all at some meets once the car comes voer :)
Customs clearance - all you need to do is appoint someone like Anglo Overseas, fax them copies of the bill of lading, sales invoice, freight invoice, and dereg and they\'ll then calculate the duty and VAT and immediately pay it by electronic transfer to HMCE. All you need to do is send them a cheque for the duty and VAT and for their clearance fee. They\'ll contact the shipping agent to confirm duty and VAT paid, so the shipping agent can then give you a release document. All this can be done while the car is still on the boat.
it arrives on wednesday (26th) i cant wait!
bet u r well excited...mine arrives feb 20th :D
finally picked it up today, awesome! Its so nice to drive & looks so cool, i cant wait to get it registered and go for a proper drive!
At last a sunny day to take some pics of it!
Ive just finished fitting the Sub, amp and 6x9\'s in the back & taken off the awful side skirts that where on it!
At the moment it is standard other than the 17" mazda speed MS01 wheels, a Knightsports FCD & a blitz boost guage. Planning on a rebuild & street port in a couple of months as the compression is low, then the tuning will begin!!
This car is so much fun in the wet, i dont know why everyone seems to hate driving them in the wet! but then ive come from a supra TT and thats like driving on ice even on dry roads! Ive been having great fun drifting round corners and out of roundabouts.
My ice install:
Alpine 9851 headunit, alpine Type R 12" sub, alpine mrdm300 amp & type s 3 way 6x9\'s.
