Title: It\'s Alive.........
Post by: hmltnangel on December 06, 2004, 06:22:06 PM
Hello people,

Vacuum adventure part 2 .... finished.... all those pesky little hoses are now replaced! Just done the rest on Saturday (two bleedin full saturdays it took!!!!)

Never mind - done now!

Just a few questions....

1. Now I\'m finished the car only seems to make around 0.6 kg of boost on both turbos.any suggestions - boost pattern goes - 8.6, 7.1, 8.4 psi.

2. under the intake plenum there\'s what appears to be a factory fitted boost cotroller ... is that what it actually is? If so i\'m fairly certain I accidentally adjusted it so how do i put it back up? what way to turn?

I\'m going to double check the hoses tonite then I\'m going to fit the new PCV Valve while I\'m at it.

Think I done not too bad, glad I took the plunge and decided to change the hoses, when I wa sdown there I found broken solenoids etc that could\'ve caused major problems if they weren\'t replaced. In the end I had to replace all the hosing, The Air Control Valve assembly, Charge control solenoid, air byass solenoid, one of the checkvalves was dead too. And lastly the only bit I got from Mazda was the PCV Valve - apparently theres two of the in there..... one of mines was knackered too. £24 from mazda wasn\'t too bad! Thanks to Jimmys too for supplying second hand solenoids an acv assembly and a check valve (£115 inc the gaskets)

In hindsight if anyone is going to do the job then it isn\'t as hard as it\'s made out to be .... thankfully when my engine was replaced last year it apears that they replaced the four hoses you need the solenoid rack out for - so that made things a little easier. What I found a good idea was to prise the individual solenoids out of the rackk one at a time to change the hoses. Be vey careful when putting the alternator back in as you will nick at least one hose and you could end up damaging a check valve if your not careful.

pics of my new engine bay will be on soon...

just thought i\'d stick my hand under the intake plenum to amke sure i didn\'t have pinched hose syndrome .... what did i find??? no pinched hoses but i had forgotten to connect the wiring connector under there! Well got it on now so i\'m off to see how it goes o the road..!!!

keep you posted folks

AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 Any suggestions peopl???

I got everything now done and I\'m getting a boost pattern of

0.65 kg (9.2 psi)

0.50 kg (7.1psi)

then it holds 0.5kg (7.1psi) to redline (sometimes it fades a little to maybe 0.47/0.48 kg but holds to redline.

To me it seems that it\'s down a little on the first turbo then it looks like it\'s not opening up on the second one? Anyone else think this too?

When I was under the extension manifold i noticed that the turbo control solenoid has an adjusting point on it ...... me in my curiosity decded to play with the little moving bit and i think i might have adjusted the boost setting. Is that what this is for? It\'s a very distinctive solenoid .... it has a mitsubishi symbol on it!

Anyone else any suggestions?

I\'m finally stumped!

Just a thought  ......  my car appears to have 2 dump valves ......

could this be where the problem lies?  or is this normal .... it\'s just the vac hose diagram only shows one dump valve.

Well done, it\'s a fiddly pig of a job.

( for others doing this, Stanley knife the old pipes off to save breaking solenoids etc)

Yes they have two dump valves,

Have a look here for help   http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/how-to_turbos.html

This site is a very very good fault finder for lots of things 3rd Gen related.

Hope this helps
