I took the car out of the garage this Saturday evening having stood there for only 1 1/2 days. I immediately felt resistance whilst trying to oush it left or right into 1 & 2 or 5 & reverse. Once the stick was far left or right it was notchy getting the lever into any gear (1, 2, 5 or reverse). However having driven it for approx 20 mins and having turned her off and approx 2 hours later turned her back on again, she was good as gold!?! This happened exactly the same the next day, so I havent driven her in case Im doing damage to the gearbox. I recently had a new clutch fitted and was told the bearings may need replacing. Does anyone have any ideas/experience as to what it could be? Oil maybe?!?
cheers
what gearbox oil are you running ? some thicker performance oils take a while to warm up causing a notchy change when the box is cold but better protection when they are hot.
Hi Mike,
I honestly have no idea! The oil was changed by ReWorx in Portsmouth and I havent touched it since then. Im very ignorant when it comes to gearboxes and lack of Hayned manual means I still dont know where the cap for the gearbox oil is located on my 93 twin turbo. Can anyone tell me where abouts I should find it and how do I know if its low on gear box oil. Oh, and what oil should I use???
Thankyou :wave
Probably going to be no help but I have a similar problem with my gears and was looking thorugh the posts and read that someone put some Redline MT90 (wrote it down!) gearbox oil in and said that this pretty much got rid of the problem.
However, If it is something worn out then i guess its worn out !
My word, hasn\'t the weather turned cold the last few days! Standing all night in close to 0 degrees will mean the gearbox will be well notchy in the morning if a high eprformance gear oil is used. I\'m experiencing the same at the moment on the Evo and on my motorbike. If I depart later in the day all is lovely as the temps are a few degrees higher.
Don\'t panic....

That\'s exactly what is happening to me after getting my gear changed by Geff. I know that Geff put a Semi-synth oil in, but I am not sure of the thickness? He\'s got a huge drum of the stuff at his workshop, Shell something-or-other.
I changed my gear oil just before the Donington trackday and used the Redline MT90 stuff. The change is alot smoother, but can still get notchy when the car is really cold. Never had a problem in winter, so I must agree with Pete and say that it must simply be the weather.
I took photos of the gear oil change ,so will be writing a little how too type guide in the near future (or when i have time:rolleyes: )
