Hi all.
Just doing few things under the hood and although I can still look at the motor and think wow, I actually don\'t know what most of the "stuff" is! Can anyone tell me what the following are??....
Pic 1 - Intercooler,
What are those (mounting?) holes for and should there be something there?
Pic 2 - Rubber pipe coming out of the black thing!!
Pic 3 - Coming from the air box then this round pyramid looking wotsit!
Pic 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 - From the air box what are these pipes doing/for?
Pipe 8 continues under the air box but is not attached at the other end, is this ok?
Thanks again, Ricco (AKA The mad Scientist!) :bandit

Pic 1 - Intercooler, these holes are for the US market. The AST on their cars are on the other side.
Pic 2 - Pipe, cant remember.
Pic 3 - Pyramid thing. This is the dump valve. Do not remove.
Pics 4,5,6,7 and 8 are all inlet pipes one way or another. Pipe 4 goes to the pre-control valve. Pipe 5 is the inlet for the turbos. Pipe 7 goes to the air pump. Cant remember the rest.
Fish
pipe 8 is fine going nowhere.
I don\'t even have the pipe there, just a hole venting out into the great wide world. Well, my engine bay at least.
don\'t know what 2 is either mate and I can\'t remember where 6 goes at the moment I\'m afraid.
6 is a breather from the back of the block under the upper inlet manifold and goes into a separate section of the air box to 8.
if you want to make noises - disconnect pipe 4 and the one below it these are your BOV returns, do this at both ends take the long pipe that is now free and reconect it doubled over to the air box (may want to cut it down a bit to keep it tidy) then cable tie the loose BOV 3 to the intake pipe,or then with the short bit of pipe tarce the pipe to 3 back to the "Y" pipe and re-mount theBOV direcly onto it there, hey presto take her for a spin cool noises:yes
Lovely job! No doubt I will have have a play for those BOV noises! :cool Prob post some more up when I find some more \'thingy-ma-doos\'! :rollin
Thanks again :wave
When you do that BOV trick in the FC, it affects the AFM! I tried it before, ended up buying a proper BOV that goes Pssshht! And then the car Idles okay;)
Pic 2 is pipe for AWS (accelerated warmup system). Revs car to 3000rpm at startup. Mine was disabled when i got it.
Pic of it on F-81 of workshop manual

7 goes to the air pump if i\'m not mistaken, 8 vents to atmosphere (anyone know why or what it was originally for) 6 is just a breather hose that connects up near the intake plenum (on my car i\'ve removed the hose and fitted a crankcase breather filter on the end. looks good and sounds nice too, gonna do the same with the air pump hose at the weekend too.)
I\'ve just finished the dreaded vacuum hose adventure ..... I\'ve literally just finished putting all these damn things back on!
This is gonna sound really really dumb but . . .
whet is heck is the air pump for
que take the pee out of me ! :p
As I understand it the air pump is [simplistic mode on] used to dilute the exhaust gasses and reduce emissions!
Edited to add - if you\'ve removed the cat then you can ditch it.
It also blows air into the cat (like a bellows) to keep it hot (works more efficiently) at low revs.
Jon
To make life easier BIN all the parts you just asked about:D
Question, if the hose connecting the air pump to the cat is split, could this be the cause of my backfiring problems, only does it when the engine is cold.
do you still have any CAT\'s in your exhaust?
