Title: They must be having a laugh
Post by: johnf on December 01, 2004, 09:14:23 PM
And so it begins, the insurance time runaround.

I know I\'m one of the \'older\' members but has anyone with similar circumstances been quoted anything like this.

.98 RX7
Valued at 13k

Comprehensive
8 yrs protected NCB
Social domestic and pleasure
Me and the Wife to drive
£250 excess

Garaged at night
Cat 1 alarm fitted

£919.97

ffs I\'m 54 when will I be any better risk than I am now????

Currently with insurers from the MRC site Chris Knott

Other insurance companies to me to try?

£897

I know the increase seems small but I appear to paying a similar premium compared to drivers nearly half my age.

john .. is it a 2nd car ? .. if so you can insure it as a "future" classic with AON ..

i pay £448 for mine with all the external body mods declared .. not that there are any internal mods like ! :D

Hi Brooksie

It\'s a THIRD car. I was under the impression that because it\'s quite young it would,\'t quality for any \'classic\' policy but I will certainly try.

John... they must be having a laff. I\'m paying that for my 8 with Class 1 business, in a loaded postcode, without a garage... and I\'m 31.

Have you tried Firebond and Liverpool Victoria, or "Mazda" (really Zurich) - all of those came out close to what I\'m paying.

I\'m with Carole Nash...

John,

I\'m 42 and have my \'99 on the AON classic policy with club discount no problem.  Restrictions are second car, garaged, limited mileage, Social, Domestic & Pleasure only, mods declared.  Think it went up from c.£600 to c.£750 when I declared the mods.

Also it doesn\'t use up any of my NCB.

Give them a try.

indeed .. the classic status is normally for cars over 10 years old however AON will offer future classic or "cherished" status policies .. my 1997 Skyline and my current 95 FD are insured this way ..

as Ian says you don\'t need to use NCB either :)

Sorry everyone i\'m paying £1300 fully comp and i\'m 21! Not all my mods declared admittedly.... but is insured for £12k, limited mileage and garaged, Cat1 alarm + immobiliser.  Maybe you olds ought to be looking at saga premiums!!!;) ;) ;)

Now, someone\'s bound to lecture me for lecturing at this point, but...

If you haven\'t declared all your mods, YOU ARE NOT INSURED. Thanks for listening. ;)

well i guess you could go down that street.....  But to be fair even if i did declare everything we all know how insurance companies will fight every which way but loose to not pay out anyway.  They have no problems taking thousands off you every year and as soon as anything happens they\'ll look for any cause not too stump up the funds.  I know i really shouldn\'t say it but i can easily see how people get tempted to drive without insurance!

I\'ve always found Houghtons as per other threads, to be the cheapest so far.  I now use mine as a second car on limited miles and they were £200 cheaper than all my other quotes at £600.  I am 26 with 6 points on me licence and a claim which was my fault which cost £5000 to repair.  The Rex I\'ve got has about 4 mods on it aswell as bodykit.  Pretty good price I thought.

I would give Houghtons the thumbs up as well. Im paying 600 for me and miss\'s.. She is 24 and im 26. not a bad quote. I have also declared all my mods upfront.

Got Houghtons details?

I can only find Houghton\'s Attorneys on the web.

try 01582867763.

They use Chaucers, and im sure you get 10% if you tell them you are part of an owners club.

They normally take your details to an underwriter and then get back to you with a very good quote.

Just to update

Contacted AON and was quoted £598 a saving of £321.

I\'ve restricted the mileage to 5K, thats the only change.

AON seem pretty good at the moment, my renewal from AON has come through at £535.79 after I confirmed mods in writing to them and reduced the value to £15k  :)
