Title: Not impressed !!!
Post by: marky on November 30, 2004, 09:42:42 PM
Hi all
Finally got Rex set up last week at WGT thinking that the ride home would be interesting and scare the s**t out of me turns out i\'m not impressed. Doesn\'t seem to have the power and the get up and go i was thinking of.Below is the engine spec what sort of power and boost should i be running? Does anyone have the same kind of spec? I\'m running 0.7 bar boost
Rebuilt 13b on ported housings
3mm Apex seals
GT 35/40 single turbo Ext wastegate
Front mount intercooler
Ally uprated rad
Skyline fuel pump
std primary inj & 1300cc secondaries
Air pump removed
Greddy Profec B2 Boost controller
Apexi power fc and controller
HKS 3" exhaust

Any help would be much appreciated on this it might need more boost but my old Turbo\'d Nova had more pull than this.

Kind regards
Mark:(

If your Nova had more pull then there is somthing wrong with it.

My thoughts exactly although the nova did pull like a b***h best was a 13.01 1/4 mile. Wasn\'t told anything was wrong. having read a few posts people who have single turbo\'s tend to run around 1 or 1.2 bar, maybe it just needs more boost if the fuel\'s there.

When was it rebuilt?  If you want to run more boost make sure it won\'t run lean.  Whack the boost up for one run and see what difference it makes.

13.01 in a nova?? did anything fall off it?  As a mark you would expect at least 12.5 with a single turbo rex.

Yeah on the move a Nova Turbo would do a stock FD, but something with that sort of spec should shift a bit.

Best speaking to Pip I guess.

0.7bar isnt a lot of boost but I\'d still guess you\'d be close to 300 at the wheels if setup right?

The stock twin turbos with the right setup are capable of sub-13s fyi. Most of the GT35/40 setups I know of make 340-360rwhp easy enough at 13psi-ish (granted about 3-4 psi more than u which is not insignificant) and are capable of mid 12s even with Max driving :D

it won\'t "feel" as fast as a 13 second tin foil hatchback though (no offence intended I own a tin foil hatchback too)

At least I have an FD which moves under it\'s own steam Rich ;)

Depending on which fuel pump you have (skyline one) if you have a power fc you can see just how hard your injectors are working, you should be running 1bar boost to see the results;)  as others have said  .7 bar is not a great deal.

My rx made 342bhp at .6 bar boost :)

Cheers for the replies, nice to see other people own or have owned a tin foiled hatch back.
I\'ll give pip a ring and see what he says, the engine has been built 5 months and now covered 2200 miles (slow). It would be nice for it to scare the living s**t out of me.
Kind regards

0.7 BAR is only warming up on that turbo! spoke to Tim at Horsepowerinabox in Oz last year about them. He said the GT35/40 turbo is at its optimum at 18psi with the right fuelling.

Sorry for the slow reply folks, just got my computer fixed today. Anyway i\'ve spoke to Pip and he\'s said everything is fine and has been mapped upto 1.2 bar which is good. All i\'ve got to do now is carefully adjust the boost to 1 bar max once i get some parts back as he\'s said to run over this i need to run a higher octane of fuel. Sorry about the delay again and i hope know one is p****d off with me by these posts or by the delay.

Kind Regards
Mark

One thing I noticed on mine (still twins so not quite the power of a single!) was how smooth it was compared to stock ECU or the Apexi base map.  To some extent this made it feel slower than before even though it\'s a good bit faster.  Could be power delivery is very nice now and a bit deceiving?

im no expert but going from experiences on my own car i cant boost above .8bar on standard injectors at much over 5k or else the injectors start to max out so ive got a 1600cc kit waiting for me to fit when i get back from germany.
