l have had a guy contact me desperate to get his car through an MOT because it\'s his daily, and he has failed his exhaust emmisions test by reading 7.65% and HC was 2686, way above legal requirement.
The car is a 1992 K reg and this reading was after fitting a new Lamba sensor.
My question is how do you make the air pump run all the time, as this will apparently bring down the readings.
The air pump will run below 3000 rpm. So just get them to keep a lite foot when doing the hi-idle test. ;)
Failing that get an Apexi fitted.
Fish
I think more a case of finding a friendly mot guy - where does he live?
John
He needs to tell the tester to run fast idle test at 2500rpm, not 3000rpm. While it\'s being done the guy should stand there to check that the air pump is running. Any MOT tester should find this is perfectly acceptable once it\'s pointed out to them.
What rpm are they doing the fast idle at then??
Usual engine speed for fast idle is 3000rpm
Clive, the Air pump relay is in that little row of relays on top of the radiator.
All you need is a little jumper or a little piece of wire, to jumper from the "Live" or power, to the "on" for the relay, I did it for my SVA test.
If this doesnt make sense, I will try and post a diagram later.
hey martini..any chance of describing that mot cheat trick again..i think that will deinitly come in use when my mot expires in april.
hey i had to laugh at the dumb ass conversations you have had with folks about the reliability issues of the rotary:rollin
mine is just like yours..but not so shiny..92r1 its off the road for winter but got big plans next year..mainly bodystyling..there is a very nice fd in the jan 2005 maxpower..its giving me the idea of blending in the bumpers..this rx in the mag has air suspension..the works...still with the standard rear spoiler which i love..il try and get some pics posted on here very soon:cool
meanwhile here is a pic of mine BEFORE the silly accident

Have you got a diagram Martiny ?
Also got the dreaded MOT at the end of Jan.
Cheers,

Guys,
Just to save you some time on this one. I looked into the possibility of leaving my air pump running during MOT last year and spoke to Pip about it. He said that it brings one figure down but causes another to rise so you still fail. Think it might reduce Hydrocarbons but increase Lambda. Bottom line from Pip is that you either need to get the generous emissions test done or fit a replacement ECU for the test and lean it off.

or find a vey generous MOT place who goes yep thats fine without doing test

lol
