Hi there,
Is it usual, that when the ventilation dial is set to "screen", that the A/C automatically switches on?
I was getting annoyed yesterday, thinking that the A/C had gone wrong, and was staying on all the time. What seems to happen is that when the dial is set to screen, the radiator fans come on and I can hear the A/C compressor kicking in and out. Also, the fresh air/recirculate air switch stays on "fresh". The A/C button does not light up though (unless it is pushed, but that makes no difference). If the dial is moved away from "screen only", the rad fans turn off, no more compressor noise, and the re-circulate switch is now operational.
Do the later cars therefore have a "quick-clear windscreen" function when the dial is set to screen-only? Or is it peculiar to my car??
I know its a mundane question, but its a mundane day at work!!
Cheers
Andrew
I can\'t remember if my FD does it (it\'s a early import) but both my S14s had that \'feature\' :)
It\'s quite handy if you really want to demist the screen
I think it\'s because the aircon also has a dehumidifying effect (makes sense - the moisture will drop out of the cold air (which is exactly why you steam up in the first place.))
So a lot of cars switch the AC on when you ask for demist. I can personally attest that a 300ZX, a Leon, and an 8 do it too.
If the air\'s drier then it\'s less like to leave water all over your cold windscreen, and if you\'re using it in the morning when the car is cold and the thermostat shut there\'s no warm air coming out of the demist vents anyway!
Bit peeved the 8 doesn\'t have leccy demist on the front actually...
