Title: Starting Problems
Post by: dai capp on November 30, 2004, 11:39:11 AM
I\'ve recently been having problems starting the car when it\'s hot...

When cold the engine fires up first time every time but if I go out on a run and say stop for petrol it can take a serious amount of goes to get it going (last saturday I ws sat for a good five mins turning it over). It doesn\'t matter whether I have the accelerator to the floor or no accelerator at all, it turns over seems as though it\'s going to catch and then just dies.

Pip has recently had it on the rolling road when it had the Power FC fitted and gave it a clean bill of health (the engine waas rebuilt about 2500 miles ago). It had new injectors and fuel filter in it about 500 miles ago so I\'m at a bit of a loss as to why its happening. The other mods are Blitz air filters, a decat and sports exhaust.

Could it be heatsoak into the starter motor - I had a TVR Griffith with this problem a few years back and had to construct a heatshield for the starter motor which cured the problem or could it be something else...

Any advice greatly appreciated...

Cheers

I don\'t think heatsoak into the starter would be the problem, this prevents the starter from turning in my experience, besides, its away from the hot exhaust / turbo stuff.

The workshop manual suggests "charcoal canister" and / or purge control solenoid could be a culprit (assuming compression and injectors are okay).  I disabled mine as they are unneccesary.
