Can someone help me please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know this is probably in the wrong section, but don\'t know where to post this...........
Had a accident last week, was waiting for insurance company to give me a price........
Just now got a call from them, and was told that it doesn\'t look good, they might well refuse paying out.
Reason, I didn\'t declared the induction kit and dump valve. They were sort of ok with the induction kit, but seem be have problem with the dump valve, and told me that most of the insurance company wouldn\'t touch a car with a dump valve in there ????????
Why?????????????
Im so stressed and scared right now.............
Wish l could help more but the only thing l can think to say is that you tell them an RX-7 has a \'dump\' valve fitted as standard and that it\'s just that it now has an aftermarket replacement and that there is no power increase because of this being fitted.
Really hope this helps, if only a little bit.
Well the RX7 comes with a factory dump valve as standard! , but Mazda call it somethin different "Charge Relief valve".
If you have an aftermarket one, so what! it doesnt increase performance, maybe the previous owner replaced the original one because it was faulty.
Maybe you can get in touch with an Rx7 tuner/garage who maybe could write you a letter clarifying this to the insurance company.
you beat me to it Clive lol
I don\'t understand...................
A dump valve???????
Most of the insurance company wouldn\'t cover it???????????
So stressed and scared..............
Can\'t you say \'what aftermarket dump valve? is that not the standard one??\'
What can I do????????
Don\'t even know when they can give me a straight answer...........
which insurance company is this..they are talking complete rubbish.no matter what u call it all turbocharged cars run a valve just that most are recirc or internal as turbocgarger life is their main function when u lift off to stop all the boost flowing back over the turbines the valve releases the pressure normally back into the intake.the one and only reason us sad gits fit an external one is for the noises as there is no performance gain at all and that includes all the waffle about faster spool up between gear changes etx..and as for cone filters most of them will loose power over standard due to warm air being sucked instead of cool.cone filters and dump valves are the most hyped increases ever and a load of waffly.they just sound good for induction noise and lift off.the only thing the ins co can querry is ur non disclosure but they will have a hard time proving either of these items have anything to do with the loss adj of the car
Can they actually refuse a claim due to induction kit and dump valve???????
Quotethe loss adj of the car
???????????
The insurance company Im with is a broker called Auto torque, and they\'ve insured me with Northwich Union......

Yes, and if they are being very funny about it they can do a lot worse...
They will still have to pay out to third parties though IIRC, but you might not get anything yourself.
QuoteYes, and if they are being very funny about it they can do a lot worse...
????????
In what way????????
If Im any less health, I\'d have had a heart attack right now.....
Never been so scared.......
This rex is my only car....... had to save up for more than 2 yrs, then spent lots of my saving fixing it in the last two months........
It seems the "company" are trying to get away without paying out, most companies will try to get out of paying one way or another, so get advice from either another insurance company or someone who may have more info for you.
Speak to them explaining that a release valve comes as standard with the rx7 and they should have known that in their listings???
Goodluck matey:(
Sounds like they will use anything for a cop out! can the club help in any way i wonder, it could be in all our interests for this to be settled! does this mean you were not covered to drive the car, merely because they dont understand how these cars/engines work! Good luck mate,
Bob
Don\'t know where, who to ask apart from here...........

Its aftermarket stuff. If its not declared then its a risk you are taking. It also fraud too, which is why they can do worse if they follow it up. If it is just them two things then they are being a bit harsh though I would think. Surprised it got noticed even.
Dont want to get into the discussion on the rights or wrongs of it, as I think a lot of the cars here wont have all their mods fully declared just a few of the main ones.
Just called them up again.
Was told there was no update..........
As if this isn\'t bad enough, they now told me that I didn\'t declaired about my suspension, which I did.........
I declaired exhaust, wheels, rear wing, suspension, and they raised my insurance by 5%. Now I\'m told they have no recorde of my suspension???????
Sorry to hear you are having issues with your insurance company, all I can suggest is that you get some evidence to clarify the vehicle is fitted with a dump valve as standard and as others have said there is no performance improvement with an aftermarket dump valve. The standard dump valve is very light and very quick to react, unlike most aftermarket valve\'s these are usually shiny, noisy, heavy and slower to respond. There is absolutely no performance improvement.
I would contact some of the RX7 specialists in the country such as geoff (reworx) pip (WGT) Simon (rotecnics) tim (rx motors) ross (dragon)
Explain what has happened and I am sure they will give you a letter stating that from 1992 onwards the mazda rx7 fd is fitted as standard with a blow off valve (otherwise known as a dump valve)
Good luck
So, what caused the crash? Are any of these things relevant to the cause of the crash?
If I were you I\'d be on the phone to the Citizens Advice Bureau first thing in the morning. The least they\'ll do is help you draft a well worded letter to the insurance company. If they agree that the insurance company is in the wrong or being unreasonable then they\'ll probably suggest you write to the Insurance Ombudsman as well.
I can understand where the insurance company are coming from though. You\'ve got to admit that some yoof in a souped up Saxo is probably going to drive like more of an arse than Mr Sensible of the same age in a standard car. So they\'ll ask for mods to be declared so they can load the premium accordingly. It doesn\'t seem fair that Mr Sensible with a modded car also has to pay more.
I understand your concerns but try not to get too worried or worked up. If they get the impression you are they will keep the pressure on.
First things first:
Do you remember when you told them about the mods including the suspension ?
If so, did you do that in writing or on the phone?
If in writing, dig out the copy of the letter I know you kept ;) or if you hav to ask for a copy of theirs if you didn\'t keep a copy. If they can\'t do this they cannot deny what you told them.
If by phone ask for a transcript of the call, there is an announcement at the start of an insurance call to advise if they record and they probably do.
You are legally entitled to see any and all information they have on you under the data protection act. They have a time delay fo a few weeks they can stall on paper and they can make a charge to you for admin costs of collating and copying it, but electronic if a lot more harsh on them.
If you didn\'t declare the aftermarket induction kit and haven\'t put your foot in it, then you didn\'t know it was aftermarket or you would have declared it like you did the other mods because you are honest and the proof is in the fact you declared your other mods. Same holds true for the bov, but if you have put your foot in it and acknowledged it is an aftermarket mod then see my next paragraph.
Explain this to them as it is written here. A dump valve, (also commonly known as a blow off valve, bov, or a charge relief valve) is an integral part of any turbocharged car. It vents the pressure in the system when the throttle is closed suddenly so as to prevent said pressure bing forced back into the turbo impeller and forcing it to turn backwards, thus reducing the wear on the impeller and the risk of failure of the part. The valve, given it\'s function, can make no change to the power or performance of the vehicle.
Important point to remember - now that you have made a claim, you are worth a fortune to them in increased premiums when you get another car. - assuming of course you don\'t have a bad insurance history - point this out to them.
Finally - Get everything in writing so you can threaten to go o that tw@t on watchdog!!! :rollin ;)
Hope this helps you, but stay calm and argue your case as you have made a legitimate claim, the car has no undisclosed changes which would make it more powerful and therefore more like to be involved in a road traffic accident.
Good luck!
Just read your next post regarding the shocks, sounds like they are definately trying to wriggle out of paying, I think you need to speak to the insurance ombudsman and get some advice!!
They said the dump valve is a modification, end of story.........
Will try the phone recording thing, though they\'ll probably come back to me with.... Oh, it wasn\'t recorded........
But what\'s the point declaring anything if they can just come back and tell you that, Oh..... We have no records of that!!!!!!!!!!
V tired being stressed and scared.....
Why does it take them so long???????
I\'d rather knowing if it\'s either good news or bad now.
If it\'s bad, which according to them most likely ... At least I can start taking it in, but to be left like this...........
be patient. Don;t get in a tiz, it won;t help you to be all bent out of shape
They will take time as they\'re making interest on the money every day that they haven\'t paid it out to you.
Check all your paperwork and make sure you are getting everything in writing now. then contact CAB and get some proper advice.
Thanks guys for all the advices
Will try every susggestions you guys gave me.
Thanks lots
Don\'t know what to say apart from what everyone here has already said. Explain to the company that it is standard and if they still don\'t listen then speak to the supervisor .... now don\'t let the supervisor fob you off at this point as they will try it. If you don\'t get any joy then kick up a stink and speak to the manager. I had a similiar situation with one of the mr2\'s i had ( k&n induction kit, dump valve and cat back) was actually the engineers report that settled it - he advised them that they wouldn\'t make much difference too and as soon as I made a bit of noise about it to supervisor they shut up and got on with it.
I am sure we can help out with an authorised club letter we have authenticated many different things in the past for members, including emissions stuff for Tim of RX Motors.
Send me your address via a PM and we will write you a letter to send to your insurance company stating what l said earlier.
Thank you Clive!!
you have pm
Sorry to hear of your troubles mate; I found the CAB particularly helpful when I had some problems with motor insurance company. At the very worst it will pile on a little pressure on them that another party other than yourself are also intervening on the case. Just be concise and composed at all times with them, what mods you knew is what you told and you find it abhorrent that they are refusing to pay out. You are right.
As always, good to see Clive helping out another rotary owner.
If you declared mods and they changed the premium as a result then it occurs to me that...
a) They have AGREED TO INSURE THOSE MODIFICATIONS by issuing you with a new premium and I can\'t see how they can possibly argue otherwise - so don\'t worry about the suspension.
b) If they agreed a new premium they must have sent you new paperwork, which will have the mods listed on it...
By the way, NU have a poor reputation in the industry - they are a bunch of tossers and even brokers don\'t like dealing with them. DO NOT GIVE IN.
Rang NU and Auto Torque up today. Guess what, nobody knows anything............. surprise surprise.............
Only know that they are moving the car to another place for further investigation.......... And I only know that because the owner of the recovery rang me up and told me.......
I\'ve just had problems with NU over the gf ignis that I wrote off, took 2 months to decide it was written off which from looking at it after it happened I already knew, small cars & artics dont mix, luckily no one was hurt. If I spoke to another call centre in india I was going to explode & insist I got called sir instead of gerry. They finally made the desison that it was written off £7500 to fix car only cost 8500. Now we\'re waiting on conformation of when the new car will arrive.
But yet a few yrs ago when I had my imp damaged when I wrote off the my 900 turbo, it was elephant that took forever & imp was insured with NU & on a trailer loads of mods not declared basically a race car for the road, assessor only asked about the buckets & harnesses because it said hillclimb car to him told him the original eatbelts were still there & I said which would you prefer in a accident the harness\'es or the static belts he agreed with me didnt have a clue what the car was worth & i made a tidy profit on what it was & got the car back
Was told last monday that things would get sorted out by the end of last weekend. Just been told today it\'ll probably be this weekend.......... We\'ll see..........
Anyone knows how much it should cost for me to buy the salvage back??????
Cheers
By the way, I think we should start a thread on bad insurance company.
more often than not, the person who assessed the damage to your car also places a salvage value to it. This is the figure it usually is to buy back the car.
Hi,
Just called up my insurance broker.
I asked them why is it that I never received any documents stating what mods I have on my car like all you guys. The answer was it\'s not necessary.
I then said I\'ve been told that it\'s strange not to have such a document. The answer was, they don\'t work for insurance companys.
I asked if the phone conversation was recorded when I took out my policy. The answer was NO.
They just denied that I\'ve declared the suspensions. And the guy was on the phone said to me that "I have a feeling there are lots of mods which you didn\'t declar from the beginning you took out the policy" What kind of commen is that??
Here\'s the question, if they don\'t record phone conversation, nor do they send me a document stating mods, who\'s to say what I have or haven\'t declared???
:reallymad :reallymad :reallymad
This thread, which would worry me to be honest lol.
Stand your ground from the info you have been given though and it sounds like you might get somewhere.

???????????
Called NU myself. Was told somehow the claim hasn\'t been set up properly.............. ?????????
The engineer\'s inspected the car on 3rd/12, but no reports yet...

Forgot to add. I\'ve sent them the letter Clive wrote me, regarding the dump valve(thank you).
Hope it\'ll make some difference....

I mean the thread tells the whole story. Its exactly the sort of thing for the members section imho as its restricted. I know for a fact that some insurance companies read internet forums.
Anyway, dont send them that stuff untill you agree on whats happening. If you send them that now you have nothing left to stand on and its theirs.
Cheers
Lee
DO NOT SEND THEM YOUR V5!
Once they\'ve got that you are screwed, only send it if you have written confirmation of a payout, otherwise you are going to end up loosing the car completely. If they want the V5 so bad send them a copy, but not the origional.

Does that mean Im putting other members at risk???

Will not send them anything then.

I thinbk the concern over the thread would be if you had made a statement in this thread and then tried to pursue the insurance company on the basis of statements contrary to those posted in this thread, then the insurer could develop a mind to try and pursue you for insurance fraud.
If they read the thread...
As a general rule, don\'t write antyhing in the public domain (i.e. here) that you don\'t want to share with any Tom, Dick, or Harry that happens by.
