as in the name, just been out for a blast in the rex and it doesnt read alot on the boost gauge, maybe 15% of the guage, it still goes quite well but i cant here the trubo as much as before. any idea people and please tell me its not to serious.
cheers
louis.
Does it still feel as responsive?
basicly does the Turbo pick up the same whilst driving?
If the compresion is good (drives ok and doesn\'t stall or run lumpy) then i\'d look for pipes split or off (possably boost) but this would usaly make a loud hissing.
The common one on second gens that have been tweek\'d is Heat cracks the Turbine housing around the Wastgate itself this is caused by heat. (usaly means the car is running on the lean side)
The symptoms of this is the boost will not go over a set limit no matter what you do to it and the Turbo responce slows down genraly acts like a boost leak (without the hissing).
In your favor though the Housing usaly gets worse over time so its not realy noticable until the boost starts to drop of.
Chris
My dash boost gauge reads naff all, good job i have my Greddy aftermarket one. Might be an idea to get an aftermarket gauge to see what it reads.
i suppose thats all true, it still feels responsive but i cant here the spool up as before, will try it again tomorow and see if it has changed at all.
check all the vac pipes and the such like - and get an aftermarket gauge :)
is the pipe still connected on the pressure gauge ( drivers side on the shock tower )
let us know how you get on
thanks
stu
ok guys checked it all over anyway but it has since run perfectly, i let the car warm up last time but i guess the turbo needs that bit more before it will perform correctly, cheers for all the help though.
louis.
When i was porting my tubbys wastegate (S5 kouiki) i noticed some hairline cracks around the openings. Just tiny things though one was a good length runing between the two holes.
Is that a really bad thing!?!? My car runs ok and turbo seems to spool up to 6 or 7 PSI on my aftermarket gauge (i have not alteres boost levals) though it has always slightly misfired every now and then. Though i chalked that up to it needing new plugs and leads.
